I don't post much on these places. Not like I used to, anyway. I've found it takes too much attention from my kids and my homework, among other things. But I'm here to learn and to have a safe space when I need it.

It is very dangerous and wrong to think that Jesus would want Christians to enforce Christianity on everyone else.

Amen.

There's no greater truth imo than that we are all entangled together and interdependent. And yet, this truth seems to enrage a significant number of people.

At local church this evening. Singing a song that says God’s (Jesus’s) name “will stand above them all.” Does Jesus’s name stand above them all, or below them all, or outlast them all? “Above,” “dominion,” “power” are not attributes I would give to Jesus.

Reminder: war never has winners. Only losers, far beyond the humans involved even.

57 companies are responsible for 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions since 2016. These companies include fossil fuel giants like Chevron, Shell, and BP, who have been raking in record profits. The profits of Big Oil should not be more important than the future of our planet.

Pastors can talk all they want about the evils and sins of Israel or the evils and sins of worldly empires, but unless they explicitly connect them to the the evils and sins of America, the Church will continue to not. get. the. point. And the evils and sins will persist from the inside out.

don't order books (or anything) from Amazon today! Instead, order from a small press, Bookshop, a local bookstore, or request a book from your local library. Yes, Amazon is "easy," but it's continuing to kill local businesses and concentrate wealth.

I was listening to an interview with Ayana Elizabeth Johnson a few days ago who said we need more stories in Hollywood depicting a solutions oriented future beyond dystopia. My first thought: Star Trek’s been there this entire time. Gene Roddenberry+ have given us a lot on which to build.

“…arts and languages [are] treated as nonessential…the whole attitude of the culture has been changed from our being truth seekers to being job seekers…The cost of such pragmatism is that one is in danger of gaining the whole world and losing one’s soul.” Ben Witherington III, Work

The other ninja turtles really give Raphael a hard time for expressing the correct emotion of anger at being a sentient creature forced to live in the sewers and fight as a child soldier

“If our actions aren’t contributing to the wholeness of others, is it even love?” via our @intentionchurch.com sharing time

My freshman year of college, c 2000-1, a friend of mine "prophesied" that I was going to lead a church on the internet. I've never had the energy to pursue such things or the desire to have that kind of a platform, but I'm thankful to @pastortrey05.com & @intentionchurch.com for creating one.

Wife made the first chili of the season. It’s not cold here, yet, just wet and dreary. No cinnamon rolls, either; just an outstanding snickerdoodle bar!

The idea that you *must* coexist with and listen to people who are cruel, unjust, and just plain unpleasant to be around is the logic of abusers, by the way

I like to read a lot. Mostly practical (& try for non-white/male/straight) theology, but also sci-fi, science/nature/paleontology/geography, Wendell Berry, music, among others. Also stuff for my MBA 👎🏻. Since everyone else is posting books, I’ll post a few that I’ve read this last year (maybe all?).

I made a starter pack for those looking to connect about healthy cultures that resist abuse. I’ll continue adding to it. Please share! go.bsky.app/NwX86PC
