If you start Ex Machina at exactly 11:01 PM on New Year's Eve, Oscar Isaac will say "I'm gonna tear up the fuckin' dance floor dude, check it out" and dance exactly at midnight

GATTACA’s production design is on another level — double helix staircases, brutalist architecture, the holistically sterile and distant look of its artificially engineered society

You know it’s bad when even Trump is pity posting through it 💀

Please tell me how the fuck Angelina Jolie is not being nominated for every single award with her performance in MARIA

My review of Walter Salles’ I’M STILL HERE has been published on thisisforreel.com A powerful family/political drama featuring the best performance of the year, by Fernanda Torres. Beautifully crafted, deeply haunting and cathartic in equal measure. A must watch. thisisforreel.com/home/movie-r...

DIDI (2024): Sean Wang’s painstaking recreation of the 2000s teenage experience is picture-perfect. All the band t-shirt sights and AIM sounds hit so close to home — Wang’s dedication to period feel is immaculate. Even better, it’s a wounded, awkwardly humorous, A+ boyhood tale. Highly recommend!

LIFE HACK: Answer your phone "Hello you're on the air" and 99% of the time people will just hang up.

I just want to watch WICKED again. Is that so wrong?

Good. It’s horrific how other platforms abused their reach to strangle local, independent, and national outlets alike. I WANT to see news and actual vetted work and I WANT journalists to get rewarded for it. Because I want to live in a thinking human world over some AI generated slop dystopia

I wrote a little thing for the @nytimes.com's T Magazine about a spate of recent film performances by women who speak very little--not because their voices are being repressed, but because silence is their own particular way of wielding power. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/25/t...

Day four of “sick toddler only wants daddy”: at least she went to school but I needed a massive nap, thank goodness I was on PTO

Bluesky right now

I’m so bad about using this again. But I’ve just found a bunch of my old film twitter mutuals so maybe I can get back into film-bluesky 👀

Payal Kapadia’s gorgeous tale of female camaraderie begins its wider US theatrical release tomorrow and it is truly a must see. Movie magic.
