This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

So Trump hurt America's relationship with Canada and made markets wobble all to "get" Canada to do things Canada had announced back in December in coordination with the Biden administration, do I have that right?

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

It's ridiculous. The GOP relentlessly repeats falsehoods, the historians and political scientists say that's how propaganda works, and the Dem response is to be mad that somebody with 300 followers named ACABussygalore isn't fully aligned with a carefully-crafted press release no one read.

"Edgar Da Silva Moura, a 31-year-old computer technician, was on the flight, after seven months in detention in the United States. "On the plane they didn't give us water, we were tied hands and feet, they wouldn't even let us go to the bathroom," he told AFP." uk.news.yahoo.com/brazil-slams...

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

New: Democrats are breaking up with the left on immigration—but not on abortion Dozens of Dems voted for the Laken Riley Act over progressive objections. But Senate Dems unanimously and unabashedly killed a GOP abortion bill. The reason, in one image: www.nbcnews.com/politics/dem...

The Snitch State: inform on your colleagues if they think of hiring people who aren’t white

@nickkristof.bsky.social: On his very first day in office, Trump made America weaker and more vulnerable -- by pulling us out of the WHO, pardoning domestic terrorists, and breathing new life into TikTok www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/o...

Guys when Chris Rufo and Trump say "We're destroying DEI, we're salting the earth underneath it" and they're talking about regulations that reach back to 1965, they're not talking about corporate diversity trainings. They are talking about civil rights

Did you know the county jail in Flint, Michigan, does more than basically any other in the U.S. to promote voting, and civic engagement generally, for incarcerated people? I traveled there to learn more, and found a very complicated story. New for @bolts.bsky.social: boltsmag.org/flint-michig...

Day 5 of Georgia protests. Much focus has been on Tbilisi, where 200,000 have been gathering in recent days. However, this is in Batumi, Georgia’s second largest city. Huge numbers now gathering. Pro-EU, anti-government/anti-Russia protests growing across the country. (🎥Irakli Gogua on Instagram)

John Ganz in The Nation argues the post-election Dem Party must do more than consider new media strategies. It needs to figure out what/who it is for. Great line about Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown's loss: "The car dealers have replaced the New Dealers." www.thenation.com/article/poli...
