Every police chief and sheriff right now: "We don't see a need to bring the US Military into domestic law enforcement -- we are already more than militarized enough and aren't having any trouble suppressing protests on our own!"

Whenever a big company tells me my complex and long password "has expired and needs to be changed" and there was never any hint of password expiration periods before - I will automatically assume they have been breached and aren't admitting it.

Question about rhetoric for people who care about such things: If a police officer gears up like this, and ultimately has the exact same boss (the president) as a Soldier nearby -- is it reasonable to just say "The military" to refer to the group as a whole?

Greetings, internet! I am here to remind you that you can, in fact, put frozen corn dogs in the microwave and then the toaster and they'll come out absolutely perfect and much faster than using the oven.

About a decade ago, Sunnyvale CA began quickly increasing approvals for large (6-9 story) apartment buildings specifically placed within walking distance of VTA and Caltrain stops. From what I can see, that tactic is working great. Far more nice apartments available, near transit.

Help me internet, my wife and I cannot agree: Can a fruit salad contain ONLY fruit, or does it have to have nuts/marshmallows to be a fruit salad?

I'm sitting on the beach watching pelicans dive into the ocean after fish and I'm wondering, as beachgoers head to their cars to go home: Do the pelicans think the cars are eating the people?

I can't be the only one who thinks it's NUTS that cops are all routinely covering their faces now, right? Everyone talks about the split-second decisions police have to make, but what about citizens having a split second decide whether to struggle against a masked assailant?

As firefighting grows increasingly professionalized and regulated, it becomes increasingly expensive. You can only bring in so much money with bake sales and carnivals; Volunteers have only so many hours to train, do the job, AND fundraise. www.13abc.com/2025/0...

Hey look everyone, Murkowski is very concerned again. I bet she's going to punish Trump for this by complaining while voting for all his nominees and fully supporting his entire agenda.

I bought a donut at the airport. The person turned around without speaking, grabbed it off the shelf, placed it frosting-side down in a paper bag, and turned a payment terminal to face me. The terminal asked whether I should provide an 18%, 20%, or 23% tip.

RIP To that amazing time in history when camera phones became ubiquitous and high quality enough for us all to see amazing rare things captured by lucky people, but before AI video became ubiquitous enough that everything amazing captured on video must be assumed to be faked. 😭

Yes the internet has brought a lot of ick to the world but there's lots of great stuff out there too. For instance, did you know you can watch the Prague Film Orchestra play the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, in high definition and with ELVISH SUBTITLES www.youtube.com/watc...

What's something everyone makes a big deal out of that you think is overblown? I'll start: Bacon. Loving bacon isn't a personality. I said what I said.

Question, is it uncouth to solicit on LinkedIn for volunteer roles? I'm trying to find an early-career tech helper for the bird rescue I work with. Happy to trade genuine mentorship in good faith for the work, but it's not a paid role.

Sometimes when IT auditors ask questions like "How many probes or attacks against you occurred in the last quarter" I am tempted to provide back a number like "412 billion". Maybe the shock will make them reassess what they thought they were actually going to DO with that number

I miss the Magliozzi brothers! Has any new generation picked up the mantle that they set down when "Car Talk" went off the air?

This query worked flawlessly, no tweaking needed. I'm not going to say it's magical, but it FEELS magical, to have SQL queries written for me now, accurately, by just describing what I want. This will save me tens of hours a year in my volunteer role. g.co/gemini/share/0b...

I'm really digging this new dollar coin design

I can't shake the feeling, when I see AI music & video generators, that we have crossed the precipice of creating the "Versificator" machines from Orwell's "1984" and are now about to find out exactly how accurate his other prognostications were.
