The pushback has to come from the town citizens, so the people who run for school committee, Select Board, etc...have popular support. You can't be effective in a committee/Board role unless you have public support. Period. Especially when you're in the minority on said committee/Board.

When the MAGA folks started their assault in my town a few years ago, my liberal pals decided that the way to fight them was to DISENGAGE and ignore them (i.e. on town social media), so as not to "give them any oxygen." I said it then and I've been proven right - big f'ing mistake. Should've fought.

It's also a problem that many of the Progressives in town decided that the best way to fight the MAGA assholes was to disengage on social media because they didn't want to "give them oxygen." It's still this way. All the MAGAs have the loudest voices, and they are the only ones that get heard.
