9 Senate Democrats pondering whether capitulating to authoritarianism works:

Minnesotans assembllllle: Smith has officially said she's a no on cloture, so that leaves Klobuchar. The more I call the easier it gets. I now start my messages with "Hello again." I hope the staffer in charge of clearing Klobuchar's voicemail inbox is starting to recognize me. Become insufferable!

Though I keep hearing that emails make just as much impact, I feel like clearing a voicemail inbox is simply a more annoying experience than logging emails. We wanna be a nuisance—be nice to staffers if they answer phones but also run them ragged, until the sheer inconvenience trickles up to the top

So many of these clowns *with power and influence*—politicians, media figures—act like they can do nothing to *shape* popular opinion, like they're just helpless trend chasers who can't make a case for anything on its merits or even tell the plain truth. It'd be laughable if it weren't so dangerous.

It's throwback Thursday again: here are book deal announcements I haven't shared on here yet—all middle grade novels out in spring 2026! 1 of 3: The Summer Scrapbook by Florence Migga (think Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants about a younger, fundamentally kinder friend group... without the pants)

Get in, loser. We’re going to 1924 Los Angeles. And it’s going to be a wild ride. THE RED CAR TO HOLLYWOOD by Jennie Liu is out TODAY! The starred Booklist review says, "Readers will be inspired by Ruby's resilience and dazzled by the historical setting." I agree! lernerbooks.com/shop/show/24...

brb just gotta go rage against the dying of the light

For my 100th Bluesky post I shall list three of the perks of using this site over the past 1.5-ish years: 1. practical action items and tips for using your voice and/or lending a hand to others 2. great book recs 3. plentiful Star Trek content

vacillating wildly between "gonna post a regular post" and "gotta voice support for basic human rights" will continue until morale improves

Throwback Thursday for book news I've failed to post on here because time is a scam! Entry 1 of ???: INDIGO AND IDA by Heather Murphy Capps won the International Literary Association's Social Justice Literature Award! sites.csulb.edu/l-sr/books/b...

Under no circumstances do you "gotta hand it to" Khan Noonien Singh EXCEPT for keeping this banger alive into the 23rd century

[bursts in unannounced] Hey, did you know the Girl Who Couldn't Lie by Radhika Sanghani was published in the US last week? It's a delightful middle grade novel about being true to yourself & still caring about others! [studio audience cheers] @lernerbooks.bsky.social bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

The iconic scene from Say Anything but it's me playing "Graves" by CHVRCHES into my Dem senators' voicemails

Plug in details MadLib-style as applicable: "Any [potato] that voluntarily [microwaves itself] because of [fascist weirdo's] [fun-sized Snickers] is making a PR decision, not a legal one... If anything, [fascist weirdo's][ketchup stain] is unlawful. [Potatoes] should treat it that way."

The overpowering urge to reply to certain emails with "Please get a life" only grows stronger with time

Hey, wow, how about that!! Thrilled for @missashleyjean.bsky.social!

Standing up to bigots isn't about changing their minds; it's about refusing to normalize hate, making them fight tooth and nail for their oppressive measures instead of coasting, and showing those most affected that they're not alone.

My most toxic trait is that I ship an enemies to besties Godzilla/Kong arc. I'm glad Brian Tyree Henry's getting paid but I watch these movies solely in the hope of eventually seeing the embodiment of nuclear trauma high-five a giant ape. Give the people (me) what they want (Godzilla's tiny arms).

It's a joy to report that this lovely MG novel about standing up for your rights and your dreams has gotten THREE starred reviews! THE PECAN SHELLER by Lupe Ruiz-Flores will be out 4/1! (And it's available for preorder NOW—how cool is that?!) lernerbooks.com/shop/show/25... @lernerbooks.bsky.social

Just FYI, administrative warrants (like the ones used by ICE) are not judicial warrants (used by cops, signed by a judge). You do NOT legally have to open the door for an ICE officer with an administrative warrant *no matter what the ICE officer says.*

"what are your goals for 2025"

As usual I let all my good news marinate 1-3 weeks before actually getting around to sharing it on Bluesky: We'll be publishing Patrick Ochieng's stubbornly honest and stubbornly hopeful middle grade novel DISPLACED next fall! www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/... @lernerbooks.bsky.social

Still searching for a tiny enough violin for these folks

"They're not getting in but they're doing their best to f*** up the vibe" is a sentence I just used to describe the squirrels that routinely try to infest my attic but could also apply to people I'm blocking on Bluesky
