My neighbor put up a brand new MAGA flag last November. When I walked the dog this morning I noticed that it has become faded and torn already. Hopefully a metaphor. Today I am thankful for entropy.

I really enjoy a good Stephen King story. Truth is definitely stranger than fiction, but today I am thankful that the news has that kind of vibe. I'm looking forward to the part where we banish the evil clowns back to the sewer. (Just wish we could flip to the last chapter now.)

Today I am thankful for medical advances, which allow my husband to manage a chronic health condition more successfully at 60 than he could at 30. If he dies at this point it'll probably be from asking what's for dinner for the 876567986th time.

Today is knitting day at my local library. If you're picturing sweet little grannies making baby booties, try again! Today I am thankful for smart, opinionated women. (All genders are welcome, but the current group is all women. Probably cis, but who cares. Nobody knits with their genitals.)

I am the proud owner of a huge bag of gently used books, gifted to me by my aunt. She, my mother, and I like to trade books when we're done. Today I am thankful to have inherited the Avid Reader gene; it's probably my best feature.

It's been a very cold winter, but I'm a gardener. Today I am thankful that these ridiculously cold temperatures tend to kill off the hibernating larvae of the critters that like to eat my plants. (But now that they're probably all dead, can we please get some warm sunshine soon?)

Yesterday I went to Joann's because I absolutely do NOT need any more yarn. But then I saw a really pretty cotton yarn. The name of the color is Denali, so obviously I got it because fuck him, it will always be Denali. Today I am thankful for 25% off on fuck Trump yarn.

Today I am thankful for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, particularly that I was able to visit while it was properly staffed.

Today I'm thankful for creativity. Ever notice how children love to sing, dance, draw, tell stories? Art is innate; it's about joy. They aren't concerned with whether it's "good". If more people could get back to that creative joy we'd probably solve all the world's problems.

Like many folks here, I have been following Heather Cox Richardson for quite a while. Today I am grateful for the incredible amount of history I have learned due to her influence. Much of it directly from her, but also a fair amount by reading more.

The instructor from my beginner knitting class is perfectly comfortable with my dropping of f-bombs. That's a good thing, since I keep dropping my fucking cable stitches. Today I am thankful for tolerant and understanding people.

It snowed again today. Winter is my 4th favorite season, but I get a kick out of watching my husky try to run, eat snow, and roll in the snow simultaneously. Today I'm thankful for comic relief.

How are we even going to have April Fools Day this year? Anything that seems like a prank is already happening.

Today I am very thankful for Bill the plumber. We have hot water again! The dog is also very happy to have made a new friend, but seemed a little disappointed that he wasn't allowed to help with the water heater or ride in Bill's truck.

I don't generally enjoy football, ads, or halftime shows, but I enjoy snacks and having time to sit on the couch with a good book and some yarn. Today I am thankful that some people were reminded that not everything is about them. (If they're stressed they should get snacks and yarn.)

Today I am thankful for my favorite child, who is VOLUNTARILY shoveling our driveway! (He is 20, no child labor laws are being violated.) Do I care that his motivation is probably more related to his social plans than his mother's safety and comfort? (No, I do not!)

Today I am thankful for Doofus McFloofus. He's a little bummed because nobody would share their breakfast sausage with him. (I promise he is in no way deprived!)

Our water heater is no longer on speaking terms with us. I'm thankful today that I had already showered before it broke. I'm also thankful that it's under warranty and should be repaired by early next week. Looks like I'm going to the laundromat tomorrow.

It's cold, foggy, and icy today. I'm thankful that I can sit in the comfort of my own home with a nice glass of wine and the unruly tangle of yarn I have managed to create while trying to learn to knit.

I signed up for a beginner knitting class. I've crocheted since I was 8, but can only do a basic knit and purl stitch if someone else casts on for me. I'm thankful to be able to learn something new.

My dog is a wooly husky, and the spring shedding season is about to start. I'm thankful for the softest, silliest, floofiest dog, and also for my extensive pet brush collection and my vacuum cleaner.

I am grateful that for the moment, my family is in a decent position to do a "buy nothing" month. I'm also thankful that I paid attention when my parents and grandparents taught me how to make things with my own hands.

Today I am thankful that Punxsutawney Phil is wrong as often as he is right. I can sense the earliest signs of Spring getting ready to burst from the earth.

Today I am thankful for my favorite child, who brought me hot coffee from Wawa this morning! He's also my only child, but that's not the relevant point. A 20 year old bought his mom a coffee, and we are having a nice breakfast.

Today I am thankful that I can work from home and don't need to drive in freezing rain. Being owned by a Husky does, unfortunately, mean that I will still need to go for a walk in freezing rain.

I am one of those people who crochets for stress relief. I've completed a hat and scarf set, a full afghan, and am 3 sections into a 16-section set of pillow covers so far this month. I'm thankful for my yarn stash, which is looking less like hoarding and more like good planning these days.

Happy Year of the Snake! I am thankful that for most of my adult life I (a cisgender white woman) have worked with colleagues from many different backgrounds and traditions. It makes me feel smarter, more connected and empathetic. I suppose that is why DEI frightens some people.

Today I am thankful that my Bluesky feed is filled with lovely pet and landscape photos as well as posts that do not make my brain cells want to curl up and die. Carry on folks!

I'm thankful for literacy, now I just have to hope I live long enough to read everything I'd like to read. A couple thousand years ought to do it!

It's 35° outside, which means I don't need to worry about freezing my ass off when I walk the dog. I will apparently need to reduce my caloric intake if I want to reduce my caboose; no more waiting to see if it simply drops off onto the frozen ground.

I'm getting my hair cut and then going grocery shopping today. I'll be on the lookout for those cheap eggs some people voted for, but in the meantime I'm thankful that I can afford simple luxuries like a haircut and groceries.

Today I am thankful for people who speak the truth, who remain calm and determined, and who know right from wrong. We need as many of those folks as possible.

Things I am thankful for today: 1. I found an aran wool sweater I forgot I had, and it may be the warmest garment I've ever worn. 2. I'm at a stage in life where I do not give a single fuck that this sweater makes me look like a potato.
