Question: If the SAVE act (requiring your legal name to match birth certificate) passes, is JD Vance, nee James Bowman, able to vote?

Our Saturday activities: Murphy working on his smolder, while Birdie joins her friend Gizzie in therapy visits at an assisted living/memory care facility. The dogs bring the residents so much joy!

He has like 13 now. But why are we not talking about his motive for having all these children? Pretty sure it’s eugenics and his belief that he has “superior” genes. A modern day Charles Lindbergh!

Nah. That’s self care, my friend. Your body is saying “not today, it’s too much.” Respect and honor it.

Add Alabama to that list. Lots of tornadoes, flooding and hurricanes. And it’s already a low tax state, dependent on Federal dollars to operate

So in honor of my fire baby’s 31st birthday, I’m going to be making donations to organizations helping those areas. As someone who has been the recipient of generous heartfelt support, being able to give back, to help people recover from the worst days of their lives, is a privilege.

And I think about the California fire victims, the North Carolina hurricane victims and how their communities have been devastated. So we have to be their communities. We have to provide support while they rebuild their lives, their homes, their neighborhoods.

The conviction that people want to help their neighbors; an appreciation for the people around me and not *things*. And, of course, a wonderful daughter who is now an incredible, independent adult and new mom. I know I would not have made it through that experience without the community support.

7 weeks later, we were able to close on a new house and began slowly refurnishing. There were and are still so many times I think “where is that thing?” And then I remember that we lost it in the fire. But here is what I gained: a deep, abiding love for community;

My husband was an assistant DA and a group of inmates at one of the county jails pooled together their commissary $ because they wanted to do something to help. After years of seeing the worst in humanity, that one gesture went a long way to healing Don’s faith in people.

So many people - most unknown to us - stepped in to help our little family. One man gave us the use of a condo in Helen and “rented” the neighboring one to my dad for $1/week so he could be nearby to help us out. They gave us clothes (way more than needed) food, hugs and so much love.

All we knew is we had a beautiful, healthy baby girl and that, thankfully, our two cats and dogs were safe. My mom and stepdad took the dogs and cats back to Alabama with them. But our jobs, lives, doctors, etc were in north Ga and we needed to be close to the drs. Then the community stepped in.

They are committed to education, they see how their presence makes a difference for fellow educators, but most importantly, for students.

They found their people. They could pick up the phone and call someone for support and advice as needed. We sent them to national conferences, where they met more teachers like them. Their network grew, and they felt the energy and support of having a network.

Some have moved into school leadership positions, but they’re still here. Why? Because we created community- peer coaches, mentors, affinity groups where they can hang out, learn from and have fun with fellow teachers.

The challenge is that we are in Florida. So to say it’s been difficult is an understatement. But despite that, over the past 3 years, there has been a 12% increase in diverse male teacher, but more remarkable, 70% of the Black and Brown male teachers are still here.

My family was not demonstrative. I was in my 30s the first time I remember my mother saying “I love you.” I vowed to be different with my daughter. Today, seeing her so openly loving with her daughter, mirroring what she learned, brings me to tears. We CAN heal generational trauma.

Yes! And yet in all my many walks around my neighborhood I *never* see anyone eating chicken wings. Where are they coming from!?
