the USA, as Taiwans primary defence partner, controls Taiwan's semiconductor industry through export restrictions and blacklisting companies which break them. The US has staff in Taiwan to ensure compliance with Us rules. EG in November the US ordered TSMC to cease exports of advancd chips to china.

ah it has a mirliton, cool!

just as Japan went to war in the Pacific as a response to US oil embargoes, restricting China's access to semiconductors puts great pressure on China to invade Taiwan.

is anyone saying that? I've not heard it. I think people recognise that network effects will force some people to continue using these services when there is no alternative.

I've made oak gall ink to use as a historically authentic wood stain. It is very simple to make. Since the colour comes from a tannin reaction it should be possible to make something similar though probably not as dark from any high tannin wood.

sounds plausible. Or some techbro will create an AI that is purely motivated by money which ends up rendering down the entire solar system to create a computer to hold an infinite Bitcoin wallet.

maybe its true that there are only 36 truly good men in the world :-(
comment in response to post
but whether this partcular ink is made that way or is just named after the colour I don't know :-)

did some reading about this, sounds like it is chemically the same process as oak gall ink, ie its made by an acidic reaction between an iron sulfide and tannin. Its easy to make oak gall ink with scrap iron (rusty nails) and oak galls, seems like you could do something similar with chestnut bark.
comment in response to post
how do you make the ink, is it like oak apple ink?

sounds nice, but the phrase "woodland not accessible to the public" reminds me both of why Scotland is such an awesome place to live, and also exactly what castles are monuments to...

yes, the air is very clear, there isn't any light pollution and we get the Northern Lights fairly regularly. Not many trees though!
