Doug Ford in Ontario is doing the same. It doesn’t really matter to people like them, they only care about winning elections.

Tell that to @paulafletcherto.bsky.social, who is vetoing safer infrastructure on Jones because businesses (located on a different street) need extra parking.

We don’t see news articles about the plague of drivers speeding and running red lights in multi-tonne vehicles. But they do every day, and are the greatest danger to cyclists and pedestrians. Why are you using political capital for this, @diannesaxe.bsky.social?

@diannesaxe.bsky.social we need better leadership than this. Street parking should never be a priority over rapid transit.

And @diannesaxe.bsky.social has rewarded them.
At this rate, it will be politically impossible to ever change any part of Toronto’s public realm from car domination.
Ms. Saxe’s main issues are active transportation and climate action. If she doesn’t stand up for reform, who will?

Spent a whole week wrestling with Apple trying to downgrade to Sonoma. Nearly impossible. They don’t want innovation they want lazy ways to trap you in their ecosystem.

Let’s just pretend it’s a small town of 20,000 ppl where everyone drives. Embarrassing.

Also don't forget that she cancelled the Broadview Station streetcar bay expansion! It would've allowed for more streetcars to enter instead of sitting on Broadview waiting for their turn.

It’s silly. Why can’t the east end have its own version of Shaw? What makes Shaw successful is not accommodating high volumes of motor vehicles, it’s the modal filters.

Don’t forget Logan. They just announced they’re walking back the proposal to install traffic diverters north of Danforth, due to “high motor vehicle volumes”. Except that was the whole point… It has Fletcher’s fingerprints all over it.

I don’t want to ban cars I just want to move around my city without encountering this for literally one day.

The are line dancing in the middle of the protest while shouting Fuck ICE

Yeah same goes for cycling and pedestrianizing streets.

I also wish this. Maybe one day Toronto will stop treating cyclists with a “ugh, fine I guess..” attitude.

As I read your first sentence, my brain thought you meant eardrums and I panicked.

My bet is also that pedestrianizing Yonge would become IMMENSELY popular soon after it was implemented, from residents and businesses alike. It would instantly become a major attraction.

Doug Ford has been doing whatever the hell he wants like a wrecking ball. He’s not exactly trying to appease the moderates. Idk why the left can’t just go for these things when they have power.

It’s alarming how pigheaded they are. It doesn’t seem to matter what reality they’re living in, they just create their own.

Do “nation-building projects” include a $100B car tunnel with no benefit to society?

And this myth that you need an “athletic population” smh.. walk around Chinatown and you’ll see many seniors getting around by bicycle. There’s an ageist assumption older folks can’t ride bikes. Many have low incomes and it’s an affordable transportation option for them! Some simply enjoy it!!

This argument kills me. There are a multitude of mobility options (that are not bikes) aside from 3000-7000lb private vehicles that carry an average cost of $68,000.

She gives lip service to active transportation and rapid transit, but in practice values street parking above both these things.

I’ve also heard people (who are securely housed) claim this is normal, not everyone should be able to afford to live in Toronto, it’s a big city move elsewhere etc.

Not sure how I feel about this. I liked Jennifer McKelvie, she genuinely understood the necessity of safe cycling infrastructure. I live in Paula Fletcher’s ward and her support for cycling infrastructure has been… lacklustre.

That Toronto transit has robbed Reece of his resilient and hopeful optimism makes me v concerned :(
