Imagine all the suffering that could have been avoided if leaders weren't so afraid of made up Russian threats. Fear and the myth about Russian invincibility are really greatest weapons.

For the record: I was arguing against Russia well before 2014 too but with lesser intensity. I have a proud moment from 2010 when I was facing down a pro-Putin Russian Reuters correspondent. His started raising his fists but the event host cooled him down. Imagine, correspondent for Reuters.

There is some kind of idea out there that Russia should always have impunity. Russia should be allowed to commit whatever crimes it wishes to commit but nobody should ever be allowed to retaliate. There is something utterly pathetic about the way Russia is always getting away with everything.

Once momentum grows Ukraine will be able to give Russia hell. And then Russia has probably lost some capacity to produce its own missiles too.
