If I had to respond to an email as a federal employee asking me what I did at work last week, I'd make sure to list all the duties I had to absorb because of mass illegal firings, followed by a description of what the EPA's Walter Peck did in Ghostbusters.

My hero. Such a model of persistence that I love. We need this kind of dedication and tenacity in these times.

Dear US scientists: we love you all, but don't be that "heartened" by legal action. Musk is saying he will ignore judicial orders. USAID/CFPB actions are blatantly illegal. We're begging you: read @jamellebouie.net @dahlialithwick.bsky.social and @gregsargent.bsky.social on law and politics. 1/ 🧪

Like—he can’t do that? Right?? But just goes to show how scared he is of the arts. How he has to control them. Hell no. You don’t fuck with the art.

Every share will give an angel its wings 🪽

Music therapy researchers apply for NSF and NIH funding. How many words do you see here would be included in our proposals? Would any of them *not* be affected? This is where we need to band together and get AMTA doing *ahem* ADVOCACY for our essential work. Allies too.

Keep sharing about this takeover. Demand action from your officials.

These stupid mother fuckers are going to close hundreds of nursing homes, homeless shelters, abuse shelters, and transitional housing for hundreds of thousands of Americans including veterans, seniors, women, and children. These fucking monsters. Flynn is such a piece of shit.

Dear Science friends: A coordinated effort across science & academia is appropriate in response to the fascist moves against science funding and DEIJ by the current administration. It should be effective and broadly supported. What are your ideas for action?

There have been at least 4 timely warnings of sexual violence on our campus since classes started on January 21. I’m spitting mad. 😡😡😡

also: Fuck You, Make Me is in fact one of the oldest american traditions out there

It’s apocalyptic. Sharing because I’ve hardly seen anything on BS about it. Grateful friends who live in the area are safe, but what an awful tragedy. 😞

Meeting postponed… 🙃

Call re: RFK tomorrow. For music therapy and all health and science research. You can do it.

Sigh. There’s supposed to be an annual meeting of Music Research Networks Investigators at the NIH next week. My first as a member of the Music4Pain group. We still don’t know if it’s gonna happen. Music therapy was finally getting some traction here. We have to survive this

Reposting for reference… so I can set up tomorrow’s fundraiser.

I dare them. Put me in jail.

Today’s political post: I love this essay, so helpful. I’ll return to it as I work to intentionally respond to the shitshow. I love that diversity of action works, that women are hugely influential, that real reform is peaceful, swift, and possible. www.lifeisasacredtext.com/organize/

NCAA gymnastics teams—abandon Xitter, all ye who have hope, and hang out here in Blue Skies! Here’s a starter pack of teams! 🤸🤸‍♀️🤸‍♂️

It turns out Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde – who begged Donald Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ+ children and immigrants during a powerful sermon this week – was the bishop who interred the ashes of hate crime victim Matthew Shepard, 20 years after his death. https://www.thepinknews.com/2025/01/24/bishop…

From an academic support group: anyone experiencing any kind of research disruption should contact their Democratic representatives to get them involved. science.house.gov/committee-me... (Focus on Bonamici and Haley Stevens, they should be effective)

“… And in every case we worked on, when the agents realized they were being watched, they abandoned their stakeout.”

Breathe. Embrace your free time. Pour into your community. Respect what you can't control. Reject nihilism. Remember pace and perspective. Burnout is the enemy and helps no one, least of all yourself, and should be stridently avoided. That's the only way we're gonna get through this. And we will.

I also learned yesterday that my uncompensated appointment to a regional VA hospital has been rescinded due to an EO freezing federal hires. VA researchers are reeling with this additional threat. I’m a small shop, but an already difficult slog is now unnecessarily hard.

Remembering how in 2017-20 I deliberately and provocatively asked my students about an ethical dilemma where government agents came to their workplace and wanted you to help them arrest their undocumented client. Guess it’s time to dust that off again.

Though I left my tradition over 20 years ago for its failure to do this very thing at the start of the Iraq war and while the nation debated same-sex marriage… I am grateful that on this day this bishop (of my tradition of origin) showed some spine.

Resistance is creative! Bring it, KB ✊🏻

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

So relieved this has been called off. But what an unnecessary ordeal for Chinatown to have to spend so much ever fighting this goose egg of a proposal in the first place. The billionaires just want to exhaust us.

reminder insurrection is bad ur welcome

Someone in a community group I’m in (not music therapy related) just asked for ideas to plug into an AI generator to write a song for the group. She added, if you’re worried about the eco impact of AI, don’t worry—my home is powered by solar! Um… that’s not how that works? Right?

Congratulations to Rowan MT adjunct faculty member John Glaubitz on this exciting publication describing the latest assistive technology for a patient with spinal injuries affecting movement! If you eed access to full-text, hit me up and I’ll send it to you. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....?
