Sure, me too, but it’s to society’s detriment if more people are able to not at least make efforts at Learning and instead outsource it to a LLM

Obviously there are a ton of factors, sample size, yadda

right, and that attitude is great and in a world where everyone was trying to understand the problem before deploying a tool (llm or otherwise) I wouldn’t be concerned
in a world where I have seen a dramatic drop-off over the ability of interns to think systematically over the last few years…

Exactly, it is a force multiplier for those with knowledge and I think that’s is cool and good, but in cases that it is being used for “learning” instead it is extremely shitty

at present, a llm can’t think in a systems context (in fairness not something very common in general), so even if one gets perfectly useful output at the moment, but if one cannot understand the limitations of what they’ve done or the corner cases that have to be addressed

I think that’s the problem, though-I don’t think anyone is particularly annoyed using a tool in places where it is doing what a human could never do, I worry about it being used to do what used to be a human activity performed to do Learning

inevitably though, recreating the work done to that point would only take about a tenth of the time
is it possible that the act of thinking, organizing, collecting, synthesizing, and outputting built neurons that weren’t there, thus doing the rom again was much much easier?

you aren’t wrong per se, but here is something that is both anecdotal in terms of sample size but worth considering
remember back before autosave? Everyone in their late thirties remembers writing a paper or code or project or whatever and losing twenty hours of work when their machine crashed

being wrong sucks ass! being offensive and hurting people’s feelings when you didn’t mean to sucks! that’s not a problem for the wronged to navigate!

everyone wants to think they are a good person and it takes considerably more emotional energy to take the l, consider the correctness of the critique, and incorporate that into life going forward instead of principal skinnering oneself into others being wrong

tesla is a fun case of a company that legitimately was out ahead and could have avoided the fast follower problem since the followers were not particularly fast, but instead made some absolutely terrible bets instead of selling to a company could manufacture at scale

the correct answer is, unfortunately, “I believe that you didn’t vote for this, and you are intelligent, so how did they fool you?” Followed by “… and given that you didn’t vote for this what will you do to reverse it?”
which sucks ass!

The idea that my community ought to demand more from her citizens than merely being responsible consumers is somehow simultaneously my most conservative and most communist opinion.

gusto is terminally twee but to their credit when I told their 6765 service go fuck themselves, I’m not paying a thousand bucks for a ten minute spreadsheet I do myself, instead of saying “a bloo bloo bloo we aren’t set up for that” they instead made me some sort of super admin to let me self file
