My latest greatest joy, one that allows me to take moments of respite from the world, is the bird feeders I recently installed outside my window. It took them a few days, but the finches have discovered this feeder in a big way and it delights me to watch them (it’s also driving my cats crazy).

Federal agents thought they could stay at LA-area hotels. Communities are trying to make sure they can’t. When feds checked into a Pasadena hotel, they didn’t expect 100s of protesters and a day laborers’ band, the tactic that kicked them out is spreading. lapublicpress.org/2025/06/fede...

When the chips are down, we trot out the dark humor, and I just think that’s great

Great story by my coworker and colleague @kenstonemedia.bsky.social

Literally the definition of too little too late

For journalists covering protests in Los Angeles, join us for this online safety training on Monday. Colin Pereira, chief strategist on journalist safety for @pressfreedom.bsky.social (CPJ) will lead this session. All welcome, but will have some CA local focus. tinyurl.com/cpjsafety

This is a jaw-dropping lie. Check my feed for videos of ICE at Dodger Stadium trying to get into the parking lot and being blocked by the LAPD.

It writes itself, really

Can't stop. Won't stop. On the heels of our lawsuit over LAPD's unlawful treatment of journalists covering protests, @lapressclub.bsky.social join @statuscoupnews.bsky.social & @thesouthlander.com in a separate suit about LASD. Thank you to the attorneys fighting to allow the press to do its job.

In response to so many members and followers asking why we haven’t called out the Dodgers and ICE, here is @eltragon.bsky.social

Why is Bluesky great? Because by the time I found out You Know Who had joined this site, one of the mod lists I subscribe to had already blocked him. Protect your peace, y’all.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

L.A. Taco has confirmed with the family of 20yr old Adrian Andrew Martinez, who was taken by ICE while working at Walmart in Pico Rivera, is a US citizen who was speaking up for his coworker that was detained. ~ @eltragon.bsky.social

The Los Angeles Press Club says law enforcement officers have violated press freedoms of reporters covering anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles more than three dozen times. https://n.pr/3Zw0tPg

Arturo Obrego, a 77-year-old army veteran who hitchiked from Huntington Beach is going viral for getting hit with wooden baton by officers on horses and knocked down during today’s peaceful “No Kings” protest in DTLA. @TheGlutster ran into him at Union Station a couple of hours after the incident.

From yesterday in downtown Los Angles: LAPD on horseback advance on a crowd of peaceful protesters while other officers shoot dangerous crowd control weapons. Many people were left seriously injured. Reporting for @capitalandmain.bsky.social

here’s the moment LASD advanced on protestors with horses and used flash-bangs as we reported live yesterday. www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp-vi...

@msnbc.com reporter at the 1:15 mark. “The chaos you’re seeing is not the result of peaceful protestors, it’s the result of actions of law enforcement, specifically the Los Angeles sheriff’s department.” #nokings

Like a scene out of a movie, LAPD on horseback emerged out of a cloud of tear gas so thick it obscured the entire block and left hundreds injured. They would go on to continue assaulting protesters and press.

@katecagle.bsky.social has looked/is looking into this and hasn’t been able to confirm this happened.

Nobody is actively hurting ICE agents. They’ve been freely snatching people off the streets without danger. They’re not victims.

As @eltragon.bsky.social goes around the city speaking with business owners and seeing more owners choosing to close, he’s seeing the economic impact of these ICE raids on the horizon. ~ reporting for @lataco

The oppression of the entire Latino community of Los Angeles right now is difficult to convey. Normally vibrant local retail areas of East LA and SELA look like ghost towns this week. People are afraid to leave their homes. Parents afraid to go to work. It's US citizens too. Anyone with brown skin

"Liberate this city from socialists and burdensome leadership." If that's not regime change, I don't know what to tell you. The inflection point is now.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Police in LA have been attacking protesters and press for the last 5 days straight. More people have been injured at these protests than any other I’ve seen. The brutality isn’t just likely against agency policy, it’s also potentially lethal. capitalandmain.com/police-viole...

Removing pepperball residue from clothing and other items. This is based on my (unfortunately extensive) personal experience and experimentiation. Pepperballs contain powdered PAVA, an oily, synthetic capsaicin analog. The only reliable way to remove it is with a good surfactant soap and water. 1/

I was wondering if any DTLA residents were gonna do this, and they did!

Graffiti and weed? That’s an average day, bro.

Polite request to please credit the photographers whose L.A. photos you’re sharing. They’re out there risking getting their shins exploded by police munitions to get those shots.

Law enforcement is violently targeting press at protests around Los Angeles, from easily recognizable "mainstream" outlets to freelancers and independents. ALL press have explicit legal protections in California. #JournalismIsNotACrime. This evidence thread may get graphic. 🧵👇

I’m not sure how to express how intensely personal these raids feel as an Angeleno. Whatever stereotypes you have in your head about La-La-Land, immigrants are the lifeblood of this city. It’s an assault on what we love about this place.

A protest against the detainments of immigrants at 930 e towne in LA beginning to escalate. Detainees are being filed into trucks. Large protest is here. Tear gas has been deployed. More to come.

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake
