It was illegal to play softball in the 90s and not have this movie become your entire personality

I bemoan the absence of outlets for smart culture writing almost daily 😭

I see tonssss of house finches and many mourning doves at the bird feeders outside my window, plus occasionally dark-eyed juncos, and I think maybe once a California towhee. It’s pretty great!

My mom has the most beautiful tight curls — when she doesn’t straighten it, that is. She swears it’s too hot to go natural! So she continues to straighten it as she’s done for at least 50 years. Bums me out, man.

No tall chairs!! And definitely none of those pretty but horribly uncomfortable shiny metal chairs that have become ubiquitous in restaurants and coffee shops

Never thought I’d be defending Catholicism this many years into “I’ll go to church for funerals, weddings, and baptisms, but you can’t make me take communion”

I do remember at some point wondering why the name of my church was relevant, but I kept filling it out until I learned about Louisiana I guess

This is it. Several textbooks in the early ‘90s had my family’s church written on that parish line. 😭

Also, re: parishes, did your school textbooks have that page where you wrote your name, like checking out a library book? There was a section for info like your city and county, but I think it said “county/parish.” If blank, I’d fill in my county and the name of my fam’s parish (church). Kids!

*we* don’t even know if we’re talking about LA city or LA county most of the time, we always have to specify when it matters

Anytime I drive outside of CA, I literally have to look up if I can make a right on red. It’s a reflex!
