"Revenge is a dish best served cold - like the tuna you did not give me, you bastard"

Πάμϕιλος is a Greek name, literally 'beloved by all', rendered in Latin as Pamphilus. 'Pamphilus, de Amore' was a very popular Latin comedy in the 12th century, so widely circulated that the French diminutive of Pamphilus (Pamphilet) became a word for any simple, unbound book – hence, 'pamphlet'.

"Skam" (lit. "Shame") is the last novel in Ann-Helén Laestadius' so-called Sámi-trilogy. "Skam" is perhaps not as poignant or morally challenging as the two previous novels "Stöld"* & "Straff"*, but still an excellent, compelling read about the loss of and quest for identity and belonging.

140 years ago, on May 12 1885, the Norwegian parliament made landsmål (later renamed nynorsk) the official language of the country alongside riksmål (later renamed bokmål). Today, it's #nynorskdagen og me feirar med kjærleik til språket. #norsk #nynorsk

I bought this book as a birthday present for a friend's son who's really interested in ornithology, and it is so beautifully illustrated that I'm tempted to get a copy for myself too.

Sunshine, blue sky and sea.

Rudeness isn't cool. It never was and never will be.

#Caturday

This is going to turn into a well-deserved tasty pizza.

If you see this post, find a pic of you from five years ago and post it. Must have a been a Friday because I remember being about to enter that off-licence when I took it. I'm a man of habit.

"Hai presente la sensazione di essere circondato da 100 barbagianni che ti schiaffeggiano con le ali intinte nel vino?" 🤣 Sto guardando vecchi video della Guzzanti quando faceva la parodia della Marini e sto ridendo talmente tanto che mi scendono le lacrime.

Because a linguist will go abroad to enjoy local etymological connections, here's my tribute to La Serenissima – twelve everyday English words that have travelled from or through Venice! dannybate.com/2025/05/04/t...

Vemod. Eit einaste stort vemod.

It's that time of year when the temperature can be a lovely 15°C and then drop to 5°C as soon as a cloud covers the sun.

Äntligen! ☀️

Happy Friday or whatever.

Rökta sardiner med ägg och rödlök på rågbröd. Så enkelt och så gott. Smoked sprats with egg and red onion on rye bread. So simple and so good.

The Spanish man that came to the gym singing Albano & Romina's "Felicità" *in Italian* has definitely set the mood for the rest of the day and the night. Felicità indeed!

Good riddance to this pointless app, utterly useless for proper language learning.

'Blomkål', 'bokmål' - det är ju lätt att ta fel när man handlar online så nu var det norska böcker som hamnade i korgen igen.

We're both at the window, but we're looking at different things.

Sitting on the train home beside a woman who's telling a colleague of hers that her son is going to Spain as an exchange student and that he turned down a university in Barcelona because 'he doesn't want to learn Catalan, which is fake Spanish...' Reader, I'm swallowing my tongue. Give me strength.

Hembakat surdegsrågbröd. Hjemmebakt/heimebakt surdeigsrugbrød. Home-made sourdough rye bread.

I natt drømte jeg at jeg leste "Kristin Lavransdatter" høyt sammen med Herman Flesvig, og nå kan jeg ikke slutte å tenke på det.

Dinner took a (delicious) French turn tonight. From snail pâté snacks to confit de canard (and gorgeous wine). Not sure a tomato salad is the ideal accompaniment to confit, but it was really nice.

#Caturday evening.

Savner Oslo. Må dra dit snart!

Stanco e stressato. Alla salute! 🥂
