If you support this, you’re an awful human being

"if you fast forward 10 or 15 years, there are going to be regions of the country where you can't get a mortgage. There won't be ATMs. You know, the banks won't have branches and things like that" - Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell #ClimateRisk www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...

The atmosphere on a hotter planet can hold more water. Each 1°C increase in surface temperature increases the capacity to hold water vapor by about 7%. 1.5°C anomaly ≈ 11% more water vapor. This graph shows the 12-month running average for the "total column precipitable water." You can see it!

President Zelenskyy has been one of the greatest leaders of our time, guiding Ukraine through the darkest period of its recent history, rising up to Russia’s unwarranted aggression, being an inspiration to the Ukrainian people and ensuring that Ukraine’s voice is heard on the world stage.

Stand with Ukrainians as Trump prepares to sell them out (Location: Russian embassy, London, Feb ‘23)

Just let this sink in In 2016 Vote Leave marginally won The UK gov knew of Russian interference to deliver Brexit And despite that, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak, and now Starmer have chosen to do what Putin wants- weaken Europe- instead of protect our democracy from Putin Shameful

BREAKING: France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain & UK sign a joint statement vowing to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty & demanding a role in the peace talks. This is leadership. It’s also unprecedented. A western alliance is having to form against a new, twin & united threat: Trump & Putin.

NEW: Explosive new revelations from ex MI6 spy. Why *did* Boris Johnson block the publication of the Russia Report before 2019 Gen Election? Finally some answers.. Russian military intelligence - the GRU - targeted the Brexit vote. "Money changed hands" 1/ podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/f...

Juliet Stevenson reads the words of UK Political Prisoner Lucia Whittaker De Abreu outside the Royal Courts of Justice. On Jan 30, 1000+ people joined together in the road outside the courts for an exhibition action, undeterred by intense police intimidation. Watch on YouTube: youtu.be/FRfaQgCwmmg

Last year's estimated benefit fraud: 7.4 bn Benefit prosecutions last year: 655 Last year's tax fraud and tax 'failure to take reasonable care' combined: 33.2 bn Tax fraud prosecutions last year: 344 Tax fraud and failure to take reasonable care by the wealthy 4 x higher, prosecutions half.

We collectively haven’t been taking the plans laid out by Project 2025 seriously enough. They want to destroy NOAA so people won’t know that climate change is happening. It sounds stupid and alarmist if you haven’t been paying attention.

A more positive analysis and perspective. open.spotify.com/episode/0hDX...

1. I know this will cause me trouble, but it dismays me to see fellow environmentalists dismissing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) out of hand, in some cases clearly before they have understood the technologies involved or their potential uses. 🧵

COP30 will be at the 💚 of the Amazon forest in my home country this year. To effectively deliver a just transition to a climate-resilient world we must confront the corrosive impact of extreme wealth - my piece for @theecologist.org theecologist.org/2025/feb/07/... @neweconomics.bsky.social

“We are witnessing one of the worst and most costly foreign policy blunders in U.S. history” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/o...

Good performance by Ed Miliband on #R4Today, defence of carbon capture aside. I'd like to add my response to @simonjackbbc.bsky.social's questions, including "Isn't it better developing our own reserves instead of importing fracked gas from Texas?". A short 🧵

The NYT asked me to write an op-ed on Musk and the Treasury and then took a pass. I hope it will still get read.

Bafflingly there are still people out there in the world who think being passionate about nature is “kind of weird”. or “a niche interest”. These people have it all wrong. Nature isn’t some quirky sideline to the main business. It IS the main business.

Clue (not in the headline): climate change. But hey, Rosebank, drill, baby drill, and 0.43% economic growth from heathrow expansion www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Latest data from @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social shows: January 2025 was the warmest January globally on record 🌡️ 1.75ºC above pre-industrial level 🌊 Second highest global SST, 0.19°C below January 2024  #ClimateAction 🧪⚒️🌍

"When I started my career back in the 1980s, dry lightning was not a big issue," Dr Marsden-Smedley said. "The situation now is completely different."

I won't lie: after 3 weeks of experiencing almost unimaginably abundant and diverse Costa Rican nature, returning home to the Irish ecological moonscape is a visceral gut punch. But what Costa Rica shows is that it doesn't have to stay like this: nature CAN return. #Rewilding 🌍

Markets are saying nothing about the fascist coup taking place in the USA. Their impotence and willingness to accept are only matched by those of our politicians, who are not saying a word in protest. www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/02...

Gary Stevenson’s analysis, spot on, inequality is the politically unrecognised core of the problem in the UK and beyond. open.spotify.com/episode/4OGk...

Heat pumps are vastly more efficient than gas heating systems. With the right policies they can also be significantly cheaper from a total cost of ownership perspective. Our new paper on how to make heat pumps the cheapest option.👇 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... Visual @ember-energy.org

Telegraph reports Ed Miliband is off-track on clean energy targets. archive.ph/ETZyX The reason is simple. Big Oil won't invest in renewables because they can't fleece their customers with abundant solar, wind & water. And Gov still gives 84% tax relief for oil & gas investment but not renewables!

Here are the updated "daily color stripes" with data through from January 1, 1940 to January 28, 2025. For anyone paying attention, the current 30-day global surface temperature anomaly is 1.76°C above the pre-industrial baseline.

BREAKING: Rosebank & Jackdaw oil fields have been ruled unlawful 🎉 A critical victory. The science is clear: we can't continue fossil fuel extraction if we want a sustainable future The next step is public ownership & publicly coordinated decommissioning of oil & gas fields @stopcambo.bsky.social

Huge victory for common sense. There can be no new oil and gas developments if we are to stay within safe climate limits - govt must now refuse consent for the 13 other oil and gas drilling projects licensed by the previous govt www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Bet Nigel Farage will hate this article. Let's share it everywhere.

You can't just save one piece of land, or even a huge one. “The idea has always been that if you have huge expanses of forest, then that’s going to protect everything,” Blake says. #climatechange is a five-alarm fire. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

BREAKING 🚨: WE WON OUR CASE AGAINST ROSEBANK. The court has ruled the oil field UNLAWFUL and Rosebank’s approval has been overturned. This is a monumental victory in the fight for a liveable future for all.

Global warming results from us abusing the global carbon cycle by releasing trillions of tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere. The only way to fix this is to stop burning fossil fuels. There is no other way. 📈: @edhawkins.org

Reposting as it's so key:

1. The UK government’s pursuit of GDP growth at all costs is an assault on our natural wealth, which will impoverish us all. It might be able to massage the headline figures by converting the living world into money, but it does not improve our lives.🧵

Your Diet is Cooking the Planet www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Agree with all but the final sentence. I think it should read: Many of us really don’t want to fix it. Why? Because though tech-based solutions, are a prerequisite, they are now insufficient, & need to run alongside profound social change. This is not acceptable to most of us wealthy hi-emitters.
