BREAKING The President of California’s largest union has been detained during an ICE raid.

He’s coming home!!! Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/u...

There it is. Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) says Republicans’ next goal is to kick seniors off Social Security: “Get off of Social Security. Get back into the workforce.”

🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles. Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.

The NYT's continued war on trans kids and families is particularly heinous right now because they're targeting a group who can not speak up without endangering themselves. It's watching a minority group hide and flee for their lives while running a 6-part series about how the other side has a point.

And I thought we don’t build bananas in America was going to be the best part of Bsky today

Centrist pundits claim activist "groups" push Dems into unpopular lefty immigration stances, like supporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return — and hurt them in the polls. But on Abrego Garcia, Trump is the one who lost support, not Dems. New data-driven piece:

"Until we reckon with our cultural obsession with thinness and our wholesale buy-in to diet culture, #SkinnyTok will simply shift and transform, taking on a new slender shape online." Read more from our Features Director @brittneymac15.bsky.social ⤵️

Both Breonna Taylor and Tyre Nichols were born on this day 32 years ago. Both should be surrounded by family and friends to celebrate their birthdays today.

Immigrants detained at the Krome Detention Center in Florida are protesting being held in deplorable conditions by making a giant SOS sign that can be seen from above.

Media coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia hurt Trump, not Democrats

Gov. Tim Walz is doubling down on trans rights — and criticizing members of his party who are retreating — at a time when the issue has become a political lightning rod nationally and back home in Minnesota.

Good for Tim Walz. Especially powerful because he's probably the only governor in the country who has spent a substantial part of his career actually coaching high school sports. He knows how disgusting it is to separate and punish kids because of an adult moral panic

Seeing lots of takes highlighting the "this is why local news is important" angle. Yes, and: this is why *moral courage* is important. Respect.

Absolutely horrifying. Palestinians gunned down while trying to access food. Leaders across the world have a duty to speak out against these continuing atrocities. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

We can and should do both if we want to actually win elections.

Theory, talking points, agendas……maybe let’s just talk and be human and show we aren’t evil assholes?

Thanks @cleguardians.com for offering pride merch. I hope you agree with the message that this hat sends beyond simply the fiscal gains the organization makes from this and similar merchandise.

Happy #PrideMonth! 🏳️‍🌈

Intentionality. That was my word of the week at the #NASSH2025. As academia fights current political statements in the US, it is my job to push back. It is our job as academics to be intentional with our mentorship, leadership, and teaching practices.

This is super cool read about Dr. Jan Todd, a record-breaking powerlifter who earned a Ph.D. in American Studies on the history of strength and exercise, launched the first academic journal in this scholarly area, and opened a museum, library, and archive of fitness and weightlifting history. 🗃️

If you follow me I am going to ask that rather than engaging full time in the discourse you share some Gazan stories, talk to a person from Gaza, repost a Gaza fundraiser (here’s a list in this thread also in my pinned post, also just find one yourself). I care way more about that
