Today, we remember the tragic loss of 17 lives on Cougar Flight 491 and the impact felt across our province. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and all those affected by this difficult anniversary.

I will always stand up for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

Today, we celebrate the dedication and impact of women physicians. Watching my wife, Allison, balance patient care and family life has shown me just how much heart and hard work go into the profession. To all the women in medicine—thank you for your expertise, compassion, and commitment.

Two years after launching our European Borrowing Program to diversify our investment base, broaden to international markets and lower our borrowing costs, it was exciting to mark the close of the London Stock Exchange, especially in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Congratulations to Newfoundland and Labrador’s own Kaetlyn Osmond on her induction into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame. A three-time Canadian champion, world champion, and Olympic medalist, she’s inspired so many with her talent and dedication. A well-earned honour for an incredible career!

Make no mistake, President Trump isn’t joking when he says Canada should abandon its nationhood and become the 51st state. That’s why I’m in Washington this week, working alongside fellow premiers and territorial leaders as part of Team Canada.

It was an honour to play a role in bringing home our Unknown Soldier. I felt humbled to receive this Friendship Award from the Royal Canadian Legion, in part, for those efforts. Thank you Gerry for what you and others in the Legion do to ensure we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

I am proud to lead a province that takes an all hands on deck approach to any challenge we face. For weeks, we have been meeting with leaders of industry, community and labour organizations.

Federal Fisheries Minister Dianne Lebouthillier’s decision to allow foreign trawlers to fish northern cod will hurt rural communities. I’ve made it clear I strongly disagree. We must stand together to protect local harvesters and ensure our fishing industry thrives.

Conception Bay South will soon host Newfoundland and Labrador’s newest sports dome. This state-of-the-art facility will support year-round active living and well-being, offering residents of all ages more opportunities to stay healthy, engaged, and connected.

It’s with a heavy heart that we recognize the loss of Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory Applin of Shoal Cove West. A dedicated sailor who served our country with distinction, his passing is a profound loss for the entire province. Flags at Confederation Building are lowered in his honour.

Congratulations to the Starlites, a talented synchronized skating team from the Mount Pearl-Paradise SC! They represented Newfoundland and Labrador at Synchro Series #2 in Ontario and brought him the gold in open synchro! 🥇👏

The Team Canada approach to dealing with the threat of Trump tariffs involves bringing our province’s impacted partners and stakeholders to the table. Chambers of Commerce across Newfoundland and Labrador share our concern and we will bring their voices forward. Together, we are stronger.

We are welcoming back QMJHL hockey! Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are ready for the "Newfoundland Regiment" - a nod to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms. Exciting times ahead as we celebrate the Year of Sport!

Today, I participated in an important meeting with the Prime Minister and fellow Premiers to discuss our Team Canada approach to addressing potential U.S. tariffs. This is a crucial moment for all Canadians to unite and protect the values and strength that define our nation.

In Washington, I was proud to represent Newfoundland and Labrador’s valuable contributions - like seafood and oil and gas - to our U.S. neighbours with our Team Canada approach, along with fellow Premiers and key stakeholders, including the Canada-U.S. Business Council.

George Faulkner’s passing is a great loss for Newfoundland and Labrador. As our province's first pro hockey player, a world bronze medalist, and a nine-time Herder champion, he inspired generations. Remarkably, he was still skating 10 years ago at 81. His legacy will always be remembered.
