Popular misconception: SQL's "OUTER JOIN" is not named for being the opposite of an "INNER JOIN", but for its creator, George Outerjoin.

From the "inject it straight into my veins" category, here's how they deal with modded noisy car exhaust pipes in Goiás, Brazil. www.reddit.com/r/Fortaleza/...

Trump probably cannot serve a third term as president, the law can't be so easily skirted by technicalities (mostly). But this is the wrong question. Trump can stay in power in other roles, because power can be exercized from many positions. If Vance was Pres., Trump VP, it'd be the same as now.

On vacation, I can’t help but notice street safety issues here in Portugal. This news story is about two cyclists run over by a driver (note they say driver when reporting about collisions instead of car!) Before was a story about a child getting run over by a motorcyclist. Both were a hit and run.

In celebration of @bradlander.bsky.social following me back, did I mention you can now subscribe to the (AI-generated) "Brad Boy: The Brad Lander's Podcast"? Use RSS URL rss.continua.ai/6636afbf-3d3... Or the following deep links: ... (see next post)

Remember everyone, complaining online or on your couch does nothing! You live in NYC, one of the most watched places in America, where a strong push back will be seen, felt, and matter. Get up. No matter your age, if you've protested before, any of that. Come today!

📢 Let’s SAVE CONGESTION PRICING! Tomorrow, Saturday, February 22 at 3PM, we'll be gathering in Times Square (Broadway & 47th St) to show our support and rally for a cleaner city and safer streets.

Judging by the traffic this morning in Manhattan, I'm imagining the fun conversations that will be had by the MTA support staff with drivers who heard Trump canceled it and drove in, only to later get charged. #congestionpricing

Every day brings a new episode of the "Brad Boy: The @bradlander.bsky.social Podcast", and it's turned into a nice summary of all the craziness happening in the city's politics right now. Brad Landers is doing key things, good things, so hear all about it: app.continua.ai/play?sharing...

My building has been waiting almost 1.5 months to get NYC to sign off on removing scaffolding. That's on top of 6 months for the Local Law 11 work. Assuming this is normal, the city's inability to field inspectors is adding ~30% to the amount of scaffolding in NYC. And we're still waiting!

The startup where I work is officially launching the 1.0 version of our podcast creation product! You can create podcasts about, well, anything. Improbable podcasts, super-niche, etc. Here's an episode from my Communist K-Pop Critique podcast: app.continua.ai/play?sharing...

@zey.bsky.social's analysis is spot-on, as usual. But I think it's not that easy to predict what will happen, so analysis and plans are likely to be very wrong. In general, with changes like this, people overestimate the changes in the short term and underestimate the changes in the long term.

Last July we led an event in collaboration with the great Lauren Larken and others, Broadway Bike Down, a music mass ride down Broadway! It was a unique event, and a lot of people showed up, so much so that not everyone could hear the music. Now you can, thanks to a new video! youtu.be/6vzQKvabGg0!

If you'd like to make yourself insane about congestion pricing data on the literal first weekday of its existence (compared to first post-NYE Monday last year) Subway: 3,428,678 now vs. 3,303,727 LIRR: 229,503 vs. 208,960 Metro-North: 202,575 vs. 184,150 Paid crossings traffic: 792,617 vs. 844,853

Am I reading this right? First time NYC subway fare violators will just get a written warning in 2025, no fine. So, it makes sense to just not pay the fare until you get caught. This doesn’t seem like a wise move. gothamist.com/news/new-yor...

Another banger #emacs development podcast today, on invisible text, purespace GC and more app.continua.ai/play?sharing...

We're really happy to share a post from Olga, one of Continua's ML engineers. She covers some of the reasons why generating engaging and useful podcasts is a really hard and really interesting technical challenge. Please see below! www.linkedin.com/posts/olga-d...

It was great to rally today with advocates in support of the Broadway open street pilot (35th to 36th St)! We're pushing for a Christmas gift for midtown, to make this program permanent and continue transforming NYC's streets! 🎅🏻 #OpenStreets #NYC (1/3)

There isn't an #emacs podcast, but I've made a podcast with Continua (my employer) about Emacs and org-mode development, and today it just did a great job of explaining a bunch of interesting things going on in emacs-devel@: app.continua.ai/play?sharing...
