The irony is that the Republican argument on this has now totally flipped from, “the states can’t afford this” to “states aren’t paying their fair share.”

For more than a decade the primary GOP argument against Medicaid expansion has been that at some point the federal gov would pull the rug out from under states and make them cover the cost. It never happened so now they’re trying to make it happen by slashing the portion covered by providers.

I’m not claiming that message is more effective than the alternative or, more importantly, a moral position to take. But it is the message Ewing used in this campaign.
