Trump's one consistent foreign policy position has been to do whatever is good for Putin. But even I did not expect that the US would makes demands - without offering anything in return! - of the *victim*, not the genocidal aggressor. This is not 1938/1939. It's worse.

According to Hilter (a maniac and narcissist), Poland attacked Germany and Germany was only defending itself. That was of course a lie This is how WW2 started... #UkrainianView www.annefrank.org/en/timeline/...

If you don't know what to do, donate to the Armed Forces of 🇺🇦. They do know what to do.

Putin will disassemble the US through Trump from within www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

I think Ukraine's response to Russian demands for an election should be: You first.

⚡️ "The impression that the US is now discussing the ultimatum with Russia, which Putin issued at the beginning of the full-scale war," — Zelensky ‼️ "I wonder if we did not go for such ultimatums at the most difficult moment, where does the feeling come from that we will go for it now?".

I wonder if Trump will ask for 50% of Russia's - the agressor's - mineral wealth in exchange for supporting a peace deal... Or using those funds to pay for reconstruction and reparations for 🇺🇦... He had no problem asking for 🇺🇦's mineral wealth, so surely...

Nothing about us, without us. 🇺🇦

That last part - "...a broader conversation that includes 🇺🇦" is verbatim Putin's language. The left-out part is that Russia expects to get to keep the parts of 🇺🇦 it occupied, and then some, as part of this "broader conversation"

There's an incredible demand for action by people who oppose this administration. A demand that, so far, remains unmet by a political party.

Russia’s military used a drone with a high-explosive warhead to hit the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine overnight, damaging the protective shelter that prevents radiation leaks, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said.

Russia starting negotiations by sending a drone to strike into the New Safe Confinement, a "sarcophagus" shelter housing the remains of reactor 4 at Chernobyl. So things are going swimmingly.

For Europe, it will be either peace through strength, or war through weakness.

Given developments at the Kennedy Center, effective today I am resigning as artistic advisor to the NSO. Not for me. It’s been a wonderful 8 years working with Kennedy Center President Deb Rutter, fellow artistic advisor Renee Fleming, NSO artistic administrator Justin Ellis, and the entire NSO

Two things to organize thinking around any "deal" regarding the Russian invasion. 1) Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. 2) What does Russia give up?

Doubt it's a coincidence that Trump spoke to Putin, and on the same day Hegseth dropped a literal Russian wishlist at talks: - No NATO for 🇺🇦 - No return to internationally recognized borders (i.e. Russian occupation continues) - No US peacekeepers, only non-NATO European ones not covered by NATO 1/

Russian scientists have played a significant role in Russia’s war on Ukraine—developing military tech, signing pro-war letters, and looting Ukrainian research institutions. Yet, many in academia continue to collaborate with them while silencing Ukrainian voices. econ4ua.org/russian-scie...

Lavrov said on Feb 10, 2022 that after the "exercises" in Belarus conclude, the Russian troops will return home. Two weeks later those troops attacked Ukraine. The Kremlin lies. A lot.

“The economic benefits that Moscow might hope to reap from its conquered territories in Ukraine are not only meager; they come at a staggering cost.” Peter Liberman and I elaborate in this piece in Foreign Affairs. www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/russ...

New piece out. What will Russia have gained if it retains control over occupied 🇺🇦? Not much, while 🇷🇺 econ & mil losses have been catastrophic. Andrew Kosenko and Peter Liberman, "Russia’s Costly Conquest in Ukraine." Foreign Affairs, February 5, 2025. www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/russ....

We're beginning to understand the scope of the death toll of the Russian invasion. My own unscientific estimate was at least in the high tens of thousands. 100,000+ sounds right. And definitely not the puny 8,000 that the UN "estimated" 1/ www.independent.co.uk/news/world/e...

Biden was hiring more Air Traffic controllers because as a 2023 NYT article warning about the risk of mid-air collisions said "the most acute challenge, The Times found, is that the nation’s air traffic control facilities are chronically understaffed." Trump offered them the chance to resign.

🤬🤬🤬 Germany and Hungary just can't wait to give Russia more money to build death machines to attack Europe. Such Zeitenwende. Much decarbonization. EU debates return to Russian gas as part of Ukraine peace deal on.ft.com/4gjpTF5

"Back then, Hitler wanted to kill me because I am a Jew. Now, Putin wants to kill me because I'm Ukrainian". Roman Shvartsman, born in 1936, Ukrainian Holocaust survivor, speaking in front of the Bundestag.

A piece on 🇷🇺, Putin, nukes, and treaties should include a mention of the Budapest Memorandum - when 🇺🇦, then 3rd largest nuclear power, agreed to surrender all of its nukes in exchange for "security guarantees" from Russia & others. 20 years later Russia attacked. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/27/w...

Putin is now blatantly pandering to Trump by saying that "if the 2020 election weren't stolen from him [Trump], there would not have been the need for the [Russian invasion]" Trying to ingratiate himself by providing narratives salient to Trump.

I did a NYT video interview—along with voices from Hungary, Nicaragua, and Russia— about how repression works in authoritarian states. www.nytimes.com/video/opinio...
