We live in a fragile world. Britain has always faced into the storm at difficult times. Today the PM did so again. A serious but important day in Parliament. The courage to stand up for our values and to take the difficult decisions to deliver on them.

Great to be working with local businesses, city council, Peterborough College & ARU Peterborough to bring new jobs to the city. Getting the job done of bringing opportunities to Peterborough www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/people/...

This is a great news story about the value of our family hubs in Peterborough. It is also why Labour has guaranteed £1.3 million for them next year. Making a positive difference www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We’re making progress with apprenticeships. Government changes will make it easier for learners & businesses to work together. Good jobs, great opportunities & growth. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It was a privilege today to spend time with apprentices at Baker Perkins & Codem Composites. Both great Peterborough employers doing their bit to get young people into decent jobs. Our future will be built on great skills & apprenticeships. #NAW2025

For #NAW2025, we’ve been following the young energy professionals who are starting their careers in clean energy via apprenticeships – and speaking to the leaders supporting this route. Let’s hear from @andrewpakes.bsky.social , Co-Chair of the APPG on apprenticeships. #NAW2025

There are an estimated 18,000 people living with kidney disease in Peterborough, many undiagnosed. So thanks to the team at @kidneyresearchuk.org for welcoming me back to learn more. We are lucky to have such a world-leading health charity based in Peterborough.

Last week I visited students at TCHC in Peterborough City Centre to learn more about getting ready for a job. We need more training provision like this to help get people into work.

This is best part of the job. Welcoming constituents to Parliament. Today I got to host apprentices from Perkins /Caterpillar down for National Apprenticeship Week #naw2025

Apprenticeships are the golden thread that run through the Government’s growth ambitions. From new homes and nuclear to reservoirs and clean energy: we need skilled workers. @chamberuk.bsky.social chamberuk.com/making-our-a...

We need more apprenticeships and opportunities for young people. I’ve used my Peterborough Telegraph column this week to write about my work to boost apprenticeships and training in the city. 👉 www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/opinion...

Starting Saturday with councillors in North Ward for their bulky waste collection. Nice to see so many people coming out to help.

Making Our Apprenticeships the World’s Envy “Let’s make our apprenticeship system truly the world’s envy,” writes @andrewpakes.bsky.social MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on apprenticeships With insight from the Association of Apprentices, read👇 chamberuk.com/making-our-a...

Nuclear is good for jobs, growth and clean energy. Glad to join @jackabbott.bsky.social and colleagues in calling for faster action on new nuclear

Sizewell C will create thousands of jobs and generate billions for our economy. It's central to our Government's growth mission. That's why 50 Labour MPs - including @labourgrowth.bsky.social MPs - have urged the Chancellor and the Chief Secretary to back the project in the spending review.

A busy day on growth today including meeting Transport Secretary @heidialexander.bsky.social with @samcarling.bsky.social to discuss franchising, better buses and improving transport links in Peterborough

This says so much about what is great in our city. We don’t walk by on the other side. One community many faiths, all for a shared place to live.

⭐️ Bulky waste ⭐️ 9 tonnes of bulky waste collected in Dogsthorpe today. Thanks to the local Labour councillors for organising and promoting the day. Helping to keep our city clean.

A wonderful Peterborough tradition today joining the commemoration service for Katherine of Aragon at Peterborough Cathedral. Great to see the city coming together

Hostages home. Aid entering in Gaza. Let’s hope for more of both and the rebuilding of lives.

⭐️ Community surgery ⭐️ Thanks to police & @citizensadvice.bsky.social for joining me at my community drop-in surgery today. Housing, fly-tipping and SEND all came up today.

I'm heading to Parliament today to back a bill to deal with nuisance fireworks. I regularly get contacted by dog owners, veterans and families concerned about late night fireworks. It isn't about stopping big displays but dealing with nuisance fireworks. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hotfoot from Westminster for an evening with Eye Parish Council discussing neighbourhood plans. Thanks to @markormston.bsky.social and everyone who joined us

Good to join constituents at packed cross-party meeting in Parliament today speaking up for democracy and human rights in Pakistan. We share so much in common through the commonwealth and our communities.

Good to see @thetimes.com covering launch of Peterborough Cathedral funding crisis campaign. And great picture by @terryharris.bsky.social The cathedral is part of our heritage and our future in Peterborough. We need to get behind it. www.thetimes.com/uk/religion/...

We all have a story to tell about our cathedral in Peterborough. It’s been there for us for generations. Now it’s our turn to be there for it as it faces a funding challenge. 👉 peterborough-cathedral.org.uk

Good news today. Government boost with £1.3 million to support Family Hubs and children in Peterborough next year. This is invaluable support. Labour getting the job done.

Good day at the office. First session of the Water (Special Measures) Bill: 💳 Powers to ban bonuses for water bosses unless standards are met 👉 Holding water companies to account 💦 New environmental obligations to protect public good Labour government in action.

From 2017-2024 entry level apprenticeship starts fell from 260,650 to 70,840. We need a revolution in apprenticeships. For growth & better opportunities for young people. Important @smfthinktank.bsky.social report today. Good that government is leading the way. 👉 www.smf.co.uk/publications...

Improving skills is the challenge behind all our goals for growth & prosperity. We need to end the obsession with university and level up apprenticeships to create genuine choices for people www.theguardian.com/education/20... @guardianheather.bsky.social

Thank you Brenda Blethyn @anncleeves.bsky.social. Great story telling. Everyone. Cast & crew. #Vera

2025 is the year we need to give apprenticeships the boost they need. There is no growth, levelling up or social mobility that is not made better by extending opportunities for young people & career changers. Business, learners, colleges & government together. Let’s do this.

Happy New Year to all of those staff about to clock on for the evening and night shift. From frontline workers to bar and events staff. And everyone in between. Thank you for looking out and looking after us. Let’s be good to each other this NY & into 2025.

Mental health provision is broken in too many parts of the country. This government has inherited a legacy where poor access to health, bad housing options and drop in career opportunities have gone hand in hand for young people. We need to change that.

Joy to the world! Wishing everyone in Peterborough & beyond a Merry Christmas. May family, faith & friends bring you joy. Best wishes for the festive season.

That’s a wrap for Christmas. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch this year or stopped me for a chat. It’s a privilege to be our MP. I’m taking a few days off now for the festive break. The team will be back soon. A merry & peaceful Christmas one and all 🎅🎄

A privilege to join with city leaders, veterans & cadets to lay a wreath at the war memorial today. We owe a debt to those who have served and are still serving our country. #Peterborough

A chance to say thank you to the team and learn more about @sueryder.bsky.social on my visit to Thorpe Hall Hospice this week. Thanks for the warm welcome and discussion about palliative and end-of-life care provision, funding of services and support in Peterborough.

We have a housing & nature crisis. We can get Britain building again without it being a zero sum equation with nature. Great to see Steve Reed & Angela Rayner leading on this. The Tories pitted housing against nature. Labour will help both www.thetimes.com/article/37ea...

Joy to the world! A wonderful evening of carol singing at St John’s. Thank you to City of Peterborough Concert Band, St John's Junior Choir and Peterborough Cathedral Junior Choir. A glorious start to the weekend.

Loved speaking at @techuk.bsky.social Xmas event. There’s so much potential for tech & AI to bring jobs to places like Peterborough & the country. Lots to do in 2025 @feryalclark.bsky.social

Great to join Efra Select Committee colleagues at APHA this week. Animal & plant health are key to protecting our food security and biosecurity. World-class science protecting us all.

Great to meet Nikki, residents and support team Deaf Blind UK homes at Rainbow Court. A good home is a right. Something I very much support.

Great to see these all-weather champions organising the bulky waste collection in North. We have some great councillors across Peterborough doing their bit to keep the city clean and help residents.

Loved visiting traders in the city centre today for #SmallBizSatUK We have a wealth of great local businesses across Peterborough. And we need to do more to support them including reforming business rates and tackling antisocial behaviour. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Small Business Saturday start hiding from the wind in at the Willow Cafe in Central Park. A great place to start the weekend. Stay safe everyone. And back local businesses #smallbizsaturday #smallbusinesssaturday

First Xmas dinner of the season. Thanks to Charlotte and the team at Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce - you do brilliant work representing our business community. And thanks to all the businesses that came along today.
