If I follow your meaning....... that would be an interesting way to keep the actress in, which I don't hate. It might be a leap for show-only fans, but other sci-fi / fantasy shows have done similar things, so it seems like it could work!

In the states, we're used to lead actors showing blemish-free skin more than any human has a right to. I was initially distracted by the mole, but their acting has been *undeniably amazing*, especially in S2. So I'm really pleased that the casting folks challenged the norm.

One of the strong patterns I see RJ exploring is the corruption of nobility and aging institutions. Tylin's abuse of power is a primo example. But I think he and Brando both fumbled too easily into making Mat's victimization into comedy. A missed opportunity. #wotspoilers

🤣 I hated the Mat character when I was in my 20s. As I realized how many of the Most Interesting People in my life are all flavors of kooky, neuro-spicy, ridiculous and fun, I recognized Mat would be the best adventure buddy of the main crew. Luck is just when Preparedness meets Opportunity!

Fans think at different levels of 'meta' about the characters. There's a difference between "is Mat's character well-written, compelling, etc", "would I go drinking with Mat", and "do I like Mat's life choices" (yes, yes and no, obvi). I love that the content supports all those levels of connection!
