Today’s Rose of the Day is Benjamin Britten, a shrub rose bred by David Austin roses in the U.K., and named for the English conductor. This rose bush is healthy, vigorous, and a bloom machine. It’s got a nice fragrance. I like the watermelon-red color of the flowers, though, so no complaints here.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Snowdrift, a shrub rose bred by Ping Lim in the US. Snowdrift is a great rose for beginner rose gardeners. It’s healthy, grows in a nice shrub shape, flowers like there’s no tomorrow, and is just an all-around nice rose bush.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Archbishop Desmond Tutu, named for the South African Anglican Bishop, humanitarian and anti-Apartheid activist. This shrub rose was bred by Kordes in Germany and has the fantastic health Kordes is known for. It has a mild fragrance and stays small in my garden.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Morden Fireglow, a shrub rose bred by Henry Marshall in Canada as part of the Parkland Series. The Parkland roses were bred for cold tolerance and disease resistance. Morden Fireglow has both, and is a really beautiful rose as well.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Vick’s Caprice, a sport of Archiduchesse Elizabeth D’Autriche. This rose is classified as a hybrid perpetual. It’s fragrant, vigorous, has few thorns, and is mostly healthy in my garden-a little blackspot but not enough to slow it down. Great rose!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Easy on the Eyes, a shrub rose bred by Tom Carruth in the US. I like the bull’s eye in the blooms, and the fragrance, which is beautiful. It gets some leaf spots, mostly due to lack of airflow. I think it’ll be fine once it’s taller than the daylilies in its space.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Laura, a shrub rose bred by John Clements in the US. I was checking on my plants the other day and noticed that Laura has a bit of dieback from all these freezes and thaws. This is its first winter here, and it needed stronger roots to stay healthy. Hoping it’s ok.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Red Eden, AKA Rouge Pierre de Ronsard. This fragrant climbing rose was bred by Alain Meilland in France. Mine is an own-root (not grafted) rose, and it took a couple of years to get established. It has nice healthy leaves and the flowers are quite beautiful.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Alfred Sisley, part of the Painters series (a group of striped roses, all named after Impressionist painters) bred by Delbard in France. Alfred Sisley has beautiful, flamboyant, lightly fragrant flowers. The leaves are somewhat shiny and usually healthy.

Today’s Rose of the Day is White Gold. This floribunda was bred by Anne Cocker in Scotland. It has a strong fragrance and is a tough little rose, so far.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Coffee Country, a floribunda rose bred by M Viraraghaven in India. These roses were bred to perform well in hot, dry climates, but they also do nicely here. Coffee Country has an interesting color mix and a mild fragrance.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Rise Up Amberness™️, a tall shrub rose bred by Christopher Warner in the UK. I got this rose in a tiny 4” pot, and was surprised at how quickly it grew. It’s also very healthy and the roses have a nice fragrance. I love the sunny color of the blooms!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Cadenza, a climbing rose bred in the US in 1967 by David Armstrong. Its canes are really not as flexible as most climbers, and I think would be better suited for a pillar or espaliered rather than wrapped around an obelisk. I like this rose’s color and bloom form.

When companies invest in DEI, they invest in people. Now's the time for Target to stand firm in its values, not retreat. Will you add your name to call on Target's leadership to reinstate its DEI programs? sign.moveon.org/petitions/ta...

Today’s Rose of the Day is Spiced Coffee. This hybrid tea was bred in New Zealand by Samuel McGredy, and blooms in many shades of cream to apricot to russet, depending on weather and soil conditions. It has a nice citrus fragrance and is very healthy.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Savannah. This hybrid tea is part of the Sunbelt line of roses, bred by Kordes (Germany) for heat tolerance. It blooms all summer, with beautiful, fragrant blooms. I held off on buying this rose, because I didn’t think it’d live up to the hype, but boy was I wrong.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Evelyn. One of the best-known roses by David Austin (UK), Evelyn was named for the Crabtree&Evelyn company. It’s known for its strong fruity fragrance and large flowers. Mine is still young, and gets blackspot late in the season, but with that fragrance, it can stay.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Chrysler Imperial. This iconic hybrid tea was bred in the 1950’s by Walter Lammerts, in the US. This rose has a gorgeous, classic rose fragrance, healthy leaves, and beautiful velvety red flowers. What’s not to love?

Today’s Rose of the Day is Paint the Town, a small shrub rose bred in the US by Peter Ping Lim. It’s incredibly healthy and I think the flowers look very cheery. Pollinators love the open centers, too.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Valentine, a floribunda bred by Herbert Swim in the US in the early 1950’s. The flowers range from bright red to purplish-red, and this rose always seems to have flowers. It doesn’t have much fragrance, but it also doesn’t have many thorns! It’s a great garden rose.

Today’s Rose of the Day is François Rabelais, another Meilland rose from France. This floribunda has such pretty red blooms, and lots of them.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Traviata. This hybrid tea was bred in France by Alain Meilland. This rose is pretty new in my garden, but it’s been healthy and vigorous and so wonderfully red and ruffly! :)

Today’s Rose of the Day is Back in Black, bred by Rene Schmitz in Canada. This dark red floribunda rose has healthy, glossy leaves and the blooms are gorgeous. It’s not fragrant, but the color is really fabulous.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Darcey Bussell, a David Austin English rose named for Dame Darcey Bussell, the retired British ballerina. The deep red/purple flowers are fragrant. In my no-spray humid garden, it gets blackspot in the fall. It’s a really nice shrub rose, and the color is 😻😻😻

Today’s Rose of the Day is Black Ice. This floribunda was bred by Douglas Gandy in the UK, and has beautiful deep black-red flowers. Black Ice is smallish in my garden, but makes a statement. It gets blackspot at the end of the season, but it’s healthy otherwise.

Today’s Rose of the Day is another Viraraghaven rose, named for Dr Malcolm Manners, and also known as The Manju Rose. This rose is a hybrid gigantea rose, and was bred to thrive in hot dry summers. It does get blackspot here, but I’m hoping it’s able to shake that off as it matures

Today’s Rose of the Day is Pat Henry, a shrub rose bred in India by M Viraraghaven. It’s bred to be able to thrive in India’s hot dry summers, but it does well here, too. It’s pretty much perfect-beautifully fragrant, healthy, and gorgeous.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Silver Lining, a floribunda bred by Christian Bédard in the US. The shrub is spreading, and the flowers have a pleasant fragrance. The flowers are lovely, but the leaves are prone to black spot. I do love the lavender roses, and I’m always happy to see these blooms!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Imogen, bred by David Austin (UK). It’s ruffly, and such a pretty pale yellow. When it blooms, it goes all out, even a young plant like mine! It’s pretty healthy, too.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Coconut Ice. This grandiflora was bred by Kordes in Germany. The pink ruffled flowers with the white edges are just 😍! This rose has such healthy leaves, too.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Mary Rose, by David Austin UK. I bought this one for the name, but I love it for the variations in the bloom colors. Mary Rose is known for creating sports, which bloom in different colors. It’s is fragrant and disease resistant. A really fun and interesting rose!

Today’s Rose of the Day is my favorite David Austin (UK) rose, Munstead Wood. Its colors range (depending on temperature) from deep red-purple to an almost magenta color. It’s very fragrant and healthy, and the flowers are very large and full. Great, gorgeous rose-but watch the thorns!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Anne Vanderlove, bred by Michel Adam in France. Mine is a slow grower, and rather stingy with blooms, but it’s very healthy, very fragrant, and very beautiful.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Kaleidoscope Girl, bred by Rene Schmitz in Canada. This intriguing shrub rose is super healthy and the colors are amazing. I love the dotted petals. It’s a very unique rose.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Mandarin Ice. This floribunda rose was bred by Kordes in Germany. It’s very disease-resistant, and blooms a LOT. The flowers aren’t fragrant, but the colors are very striking-deep fiery orange-red with a pale white reverse, contrasting with the dark green leaves.

Today’s Rose of the Day is White Pearl in Red Dragon’s Mouth. This is an old China rose, and there are no records of its lineage or breeder. Like most Chinas, it blooms freely and is very disease-resistant, but not winter hardy in cold climates. I like the white swirl in the center of the blooms.

Somehow, my post for yesterday’s Rose of the Day failed. This is Ringo, a bull’s-eye rose bred in the UK by Christopher Warner. It’s extremely healthy and flowers often. Great garden rose!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale, a floribunda (lots of flowers) bred by Kordes in Germany. The flowers start out bright orange, with a yellow reverse, and age to pink with an ivory reverse. It flowers in large flushes, and is pretty healthy overall. I do wish it had fragrance.

Today’s Rose of the Day is a newer rose, Pretty Dancer. This floribunda was bred in Canada by Brad Jalbert, and is a beautiful, disease-resistant rose in my garden. It has a mild fragrance and grows in a compact, bushy shape, and is nice to plant in a container or along a walkway.
