Cat sunbathing season has arrived earlier than expected #CatsOfBluesky

Amazing what you can see even with a cheap telescope and dodgy phone adaptor. Jupiter and its moons!

Snakes & Ladders conundrum: I maintain you can’t go up the ladder on 13 after descending the snake that lands on the same square from 51. My wife insists you should be able to. Our 5yo finds grown-ups arguing about Snakes & Ladders slightly bemusing 🤷🏻‍♂️

Happy Valentine’s Day to me 🍻

I originally planned to finish this drawing of The Empress in Cambridge in time for the Christmas period… and then the weeks flew by, so here it is belatedly and completely unseasonably!

We took the boys to the Cambridge Science Centre this weekend and they enjoyed experimenting with red cabbage indicator. We also spotted an excerpt from my @compoundchem.com graphic on the topic out in the wild!

Jelly ear mushrooms at Anglesey Abbey #FungiFriends Edible, but I can’t say that the rubbery texture and the way it jiggles just like an ear when poked make it particularly tempting!

Aiming to read more books this year – so far so good! January's highlights: "A City on Mars" for the scientific rebuttal of why we're not colonising Mars any time soon "The Winter Spirits"/"The Haunting Season" for the Victorian ghost story vibes "The Shape Of Darkness" for a great twist 💙📚

Another 70 minutes of frustration from Spurs there… but that last 20 minutes, with three academy player debut goals, was probably the most wholesome watching Spurs has been for months! #COYS

If you’re in the habit of leaving shedded cat fur out for nesting birds, the flea and tick-fighting insecticides it contains mean it may be doing more harm than good

Birthday books to pile onto my now intimidatingly towering “to read” list 💙📚 And birthday port 😋

Resisting the temptation to anonymously post this in the local Facebook group, where theres a post moaning about Ely’s 20mph limit every other day

This is fascinating: Deep sea metal nodules appear to produce electric currents which can split water molecules and produce oxygen #ChemSky

Does involved in @sfed-rsc.bsky.social (perhaps @phoare1963.bsky.social?) know if there's a date for the summer 2025 teachers and educators conference yet?

A frosty Ely riverside earlier today 🧊

Putting some #ASEConf2025 freebies to good use this morning ☕️

A thought-provoking session from Prof Louise Archer at #ASEConf2025 on challenging inequalities in science engagement and participation. Particularly interesting to hear longitudinal student interviews from #Aspires3 and see what ultimately steers students towards or away from science careers.

This is very cool science (excuse the pun): interrogating a 2.8 km-long (!) ice core will hopefully reveal why glacial cycles were disrupted 1.2 million years ago

We're excited to join the @bsky.app community! Looking forward to connecting with fellow science educators. Give us a follow and let us know if you're here too! #chemistryeducation #scienceteachers #chatchemistry

First finished book of 2025! I love a good ghost story and this collection didn’t disappoint. “Widows’ Walk” by @sstokeschapman.bsky.social and “Carol of the Bells and Chains” by @spookypurcell.bsky.social were particular highlights #booksky

I'll be heading to the @associationscied.bsky.social annual conference on Friday and I'm looking forward to catching some of these sessions. Hope to bump into some familiar faces, too - let me know if you'll be there! Between sessions I'll be at the OCR stand (34 in the Pope Building) #ASEConf2025

New scarf review: Cosy, but gave me backache #CatsOfBluesky

Hey ChemSky and 🧪 I just registered for @michellefrancl.bsky.social's webinar on the science and chemistry of tea (Feb 6th) and you should, too! www.acs.org/acs-webinars...
