It's been a long time since Private Eye's satire has made me audibly wince, but this is so to the point if it were a knife people would demand it be banned.

“the world, I assure you, is right queasy,” Sir John Paston in a letter to his mother. 19th April 1471

Nothing quite like an AI-generated avatar of a white male "academic" to explain the words and findings of an expert on ancient Assyria - a female, Muslim, Saudi Arabian academic based in my old Oxford college, who happens to have a book coming out on this. Predatory platforms combine🤦‍♂️

This is what Musk actually believes! The idea that white Afrikaners are the true "indigenous" population of much of South Africa and most black South Africans are interlopers who immigrated from other areas of Africa more recently was - and I guess is? - a key tenet of Apartheid ideology.

Useful reminder on a way you can reduce the data you expose when sharing links. Similar url simplifications work for lots of other websites too. Firefox has an option called ‘Copy Without Site Tracking’ that does this automatically.

The fact that the richest man on earth is paying someone to play a video game for him around the clock, so that he can pretend to be one of the best players in the world to his Twitter followers would be hilarious if it wasn’t so incredibly sad.

Amazing comeback from Neil Robertson. Thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to the Masters Snooker. My son was absolutely spoiled for his first ever live snooker match!

Love this! Although feel old as ,despite my excitement playing the shareware version in ‘94, I would now pick walking round an art gallery drinking wine over playing a FPS.

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.

Went to see a couple of games there last summer and I’m amazed the ground staff manage to provide playable pitches. This happened 7 times last winter! Can completely understand Ashley Giles saying that they may have to leave and build a new ground.

I’ve forgotten which were exam texts but up to GCSE: Loved - Arms and the Man, St Joan, Macbeth, A Man for All Seasons. The Once and Future King Enjoyed - Of Mice and Men, Animal Farm, 1984, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, The Go-Between. Didn’t get on at all with The Mayor of Casterbridge.

That ending gets me every time…

Great article here from Steven Finn on the difference, for fast bowlers, between County and Test cricket.

England players with a lower average than Crawley against New Zealand (min 5 inns completed). Those above him include Tufnell, Leach, Finn, Anderson …
