I remember the disbelief when I paid a fiver for a pair of Fila socks in the mid 80s, ' for one pair!', to be fair I think they were probably right about this though.

Absolute quality. I think I chose a plain black bag rather than one with 'sport' written on it and certain social ostracization

Years later I was in a sports department with my Dad and he was trying to decide between a pair of trainers that cost £50 and a pair that cost £60, I've got to say I enjoyed pointing out to him that they also sold plimsolls, and he was just paying for the brand name.

I got my one for free at the listening party a couple of weeks ago. Forty for a tote is ridiculous.

I was walking near Finsbury Park yesterday when a man spotted my Pulp tote bag and rushed over to see if I'd been at the show, he just seemed like he needed to share his amazement about the gig with someone.

Another vote for Alan's in East Finchley. One of those shops where you always find loads of things that you didn't realise that you needed.

I've got so many memories wrapped up with their music it shouldn't really have been a surprise, but it was. The same thing happened at The Pet Shop Boys, I'm easily overcome by euphoria.

My vocabulary isn't wide enough to fully describe the effect of Brian's music on a young man from a rainy island, so here's a playlist that I put together to mark Brian's 80th birthday, he's not on every track but his influence runs through like words in a stick of rock.

It's in a constant tussle with 'Together Alone' for my number one.

It's an astonishing level of self confidence. I'm reading a biography of Muhammad Ali at the moment and he's probably the only other person who predicted his own destiny with such brashness, without coming across as a dick

I think 'Farmers Market' is destined to become one of their most loved songs.

It's hard to believe that the record companies couldn't hear what we can now. Apart from a couple of psyche wig outs, it's not too far from what Bobbie Gentry would be putting out around the same time.
