🌿 The Fediverse, but face to face. πŸ“ Vancouver, Canada πŸ—“οΈ August 1st & 2nd 🎟️ It’s called FediCon β€” and it’s happening IRL. Tickets coming soon. Get early access: https://fedicon.ca See you there? #FediCon

OK so I actually now really want to put up these #FediverseForFreedom Rebel Alliance stickers to sell, but I'm completely failing to find an easy way to do so. Our studio store shop.forgeandcraft.co.uk is one option, Ko-fi another (although the latter has inconvenient tax management issues, well […]

I had a great 3 days as a #FediforumAttendee - thanks to everyone who also took part. I missed the unconference sessions yesterday (only saw the speed demos), but just flipped through some of the notes. Now playing some more with @badgefed and thinking about stickers...

This is a great hack by @blitzcitydiy to hook up a Pocket Operator as a MIDI device with pitch changes. Lots more investigation and soldering to button pins than I generally would have patience for! πŸ™ˆ /cc @thebootloader https://makertube.net/w/2Ld3u3LDJnQPeLgyE2yPU9

So much talk at #FediForum about local communities, and self-publishers. I curate two maps, one for local- or language-centric fedi communities, and another for organisations who self-host and self-publish on ActivityPub. I am always open to suggestions for additions! Community inclusion […]

Loving this punk rock robin who keeps popping by the #BirdBuddy lately.

This is another #AudioMo entry (I know I missed some, sorry @ernmander I have failed you...) - enjoy some sounds from the #BirdBuddy. I've been using pybirdbuddy in Python to grab the videos. This is a composite recording of different species across several visits.

And, DAY ONE of THREE of FediForum 2025 is done. It was great. DAY TWO is tomorrow (Friday). #FediForum

I probably should have posted more about how great #Fediforum is / has been today. Been a bit busy learning from awesome people.

Nice, the first Mastodon 4.4.0 beta is now available: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.4.0-beta.1 - "Followers you know" widget - a "featured tab" on profile pages, with "endorsed accounts" - reminders about missing alt text - warning if the language of your post doesn't […]

Have you registered for #FediForum yet? Make sure to tune in tomorrow to hear from us and many wonderful folks including Cory Doctorow: https://mastodon.social/@fediforum/114625688501694623

🌐 FediCon is happening August 1st & 2nd in Vancouver πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ It is the first ever Fediverse & Social Web conference in Canada. Want in? Join the early bird list: https://fedicon.ca See you there? #FediCon #Fediverse #OpenSocial #OpenSocialWeb #SocialWeb #DeSo #FeSo #LoSo

I could really use everyone's support right now, as I've been physically unable to work for most of the last two weeks due to MCAS symptoms, and to even get a diagnosis and hopefully access to medication needed to manage it, I'm looking at hundreds of euros in tests, because they seem unlikely […]

When we released post editing for #Mastodon, we first released a version that supported processing and displaying edits incoming from other servers, before releasing a version that flipped a switch allowing anyone to make edits. We're taking an identical approach with quote posts, as the […]

complete the sentence - Mastodon makes me feel…

The first beta release of Mastodon 4.4.0 is ready for testing! Many user-facing improvements: featured content, updates for lists, follower management, new emoji, and refreshed audio and media players. For server owners: new legal features, moderation tweaks, announcements updates, upgraded […]

48 hours left before FediForum starts. Join the community for three (!) half-days of discussions, presentations, demos, creating new projects and more on all aspects of better social communications, social media and the open social web. Now with keynotes! Registration: https://fediforum.org

We usually learn a lot about this on conferences but let's try it here as well: If you're daily driving #phosh we're keen to here on which phone (or other device)? Which distro do you use and which phosh version are you currently running? #LinuxMobile

Oh. I had no idea that #LinuxFormat was ending publication until I read the last issue! That’s sad.

OK, my #RibbitNetwork sensor is installed and working, and I had a small PR on the project docs accepted. Now I just need to encourage the project to join the #Fediverse ... 🐸

Heading home from 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 after #OHS2025 - stayed an extra couple of days to enjoy Edinburgh. The National Museum of Scotland is worth a visit, some great stuff in there. Back to reality tomorrow πŸ™‚

Day 2 #AudioMo at the Museum of Scotland with the Millennium Clock.

So, I hoped to kick off #AudioMo with some bagpipe music from the streets of Edinburgh, but instead, you get me winning a game of darts. 🎯

[#DoctorWho thoughts] Well. I really don’t know how I feel about that. I thought last week that RTD was largely replaying the spectacle and bombast of Last of the Time Lords, and: yes. Loads of parallels and echoes! The last 15 minutes, frankly everything after the wink to Ruby, for me, all […]

I've been mostly quiet (online) today but #OHS2025 has been excellent with a workshop on ceramics with #3dprinting with Allie Katz, and now a session on Ribbit Networks and building a 🐸 sensor - also, some badge hacking with #micropython

because of shipping and technical debt cleanup etc i'm a bit behind on announcing that we've replaced the wayfire desktop with GNOME on the mnt reform series laptops, as one of the two primary default environments (the other being Sway), and replaced greetd with GDM. we'll soon publish a longer […]

Yay, my fabric / conductive thread #OHS2025 badge is working (USB powered, I’ll sort out the fabric battery pack thing in the morning), and an SAO I brought along works too. Fingers hurt from unfamiliar sewing though! Such a cool badge idea […]

Listening to the @oshwassociation community update - a brilliant past 12 months hitting over 3000 OSHW Certifications, a 24 hour shareathon, 7 months of regular show-and-tells - fantastic momentum *AND* they brought #OHS2025 to the UK, which just shows how great they are πŸ™‚ OK: I'm a supporter […]

Next up is @mike, who I had the pleasure of meeting briefly yesterday evening - let's learn how to hack ebikes (for good reasons, when companies go bankrupt!) "they pretty much did everything *except* reinvent the wheel..." #OHS2025

Interesting (to me) that the Ender 3 is still the most commonly-quoted "default / standard / cheap / capable" FDM printer I've heard mentioned today (although I've seen more Prusa models in the presentation slideware). Just an observation. #OHS2025

This talk on "printegrated circuits" is very cool - inserted PCBs and conductive PLA into 3D prints. Fascinating. Played with the little Tuneshroom at the meetup last night. #OHS2025 https://oliverchild.com/printegratedcircuits
