Reactivating this account to promote my Substack, Bleak House Revisited, writing about English law, legal history, literature and London. First post on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill which passed its second reading in the House of Commons yesterday open.substack.com/pub/bleakhou...

Night two of launch week for The Wicked of the Earth by @adberginwriter Tonight's event at The Black Gate Newcastle.

A deeeeep dive into equitable accounting with worked examples from Cameron Stocks and I can be found in this edition of the FRJ (available online and in print). Strictly for the nerdiest nerds, insomniacs, and the poor souls who currently have a cold towel around the head trying to work it all out.

Judge encourages use of parenting app: N (A Child), Re [2024] EWFC 331 (B) "91. The father should access (with help if need be) the My Family Wizard app so that he can engage with the information the mother has entered. That will help keep him up to date". #ChildLaw www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWF...

Essential reading for Fam and CoP bods. Keehan J confirms no authority to declare an Autistic 15 year old should be detained under s.3 of the 1983 MH Act. These cases are so deeply troubling.☹️ www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWH...

Brazil nuts, almost unique in our food supply, are not cultivated, but are collected in the wilds of the Amazon forest. Communities of indigenous nut harvesters maintain intact forests necessary for the trees. When you eat Brazil nuts, you are contributing to the conservation of Amazon forests. 🌏

This is a gem of a book on advocacy. Full of humour and solid advice, and has aged well. "If [you need to be] sarcastic or even slightly rude, make sure you are right. To be rude and wrong is fatal, and it has been cynically said, is a privilege exclusively reserved for the Court of Appeal."

I wept at parts of this brutally transparent and elegantly written account of a life in foster care.

It’s International Dog Day (Isn’t every day? 😉) Big shout to all the dogs in the world & their people too. If there’s anything you can do to help your local shelter/rescue be it donation, blankets, food. Maybe today is the day to apply for that adoption you keep thinking about

The grave of my favourite poet, John Keats, in the Protestant cemetery in Rome. At his own request his name wasn't included and he wrote his own epitaph: 'Here lies one whose name was writ in water', because he felt he'd left no impact on the world. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekIForItaly

This is excellent from @familoo.bsky.social about the recent “story”. It’s nuanced, but is absolutely spot on in the final paragraph: “it’s a shame, isn’t it, that we can’t get so much airtime focused on the real stories playing out in family courts every day”. True of so many justice stories.
