This is absolutely abhorrent.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

For now I'm deleting some things that could make me way too easy to identify without effort, though I'll leave my llama for now I guess. This is a very uncomfortable time to be queer in rural Ohio.

This is a step, good! Pair it with a*lot* of messaging about what these orders do, who they hurt, why they are illegal. Pound it. Schumer has important skills, but public messaging isn't his strength, so get others out there also doing it. But this is a direction, good!

Oh no, takeout food discourse!

Re: the great audiobook debate, I'm all for people engaging with books however they do; I think listening to an audiobook is reading. And it's usually just a debate about what the word "read" means, too often imbued with snobbery. Who cares all that much? Yay books!

Fwiw, I think people should block or not based on their own preferences or needs. Block freely! I personally usually leave *good faith* disagreement alone, but the second somebody decides to be a dick I have better things to do with my time.

People terrified of being cringe are what’s destroying our society, i am serious and will not elaborate

Fwiw: Jack Dorsey being involved with this platform was part of my early ambivalence about using it. Until I came over here to check it out, I had no idea that he was no longer involved. This might be a point to bring up with some folks who seem leery of moving.

The thing about choosing people based on personal loyalty is that they are also very often totally incompetent. Doesn't mean they can't do a lot of damage, though!

Starter packs turn out to be a bit dangerous for those of us with way too many completely random interests, tbh.

Also, anybody wasting much time thinking about 2028 has imo missed the point: we never know what the full context for the next election will be by then. And that context -- the whole political environment -- matters immensely.

Lots of people better situated than I am to comment on what went wrong, but re: the information environment, I do have some thoughts from here in rural Ohio. Actual news media coverage does matter, but most of the reachable folks here get much of their info from social media.

Funny how much more time I spend clicking on things and reading comments when it isn't 82,874 "Nazi with checkmark" posts at the top

Getting my bearings, I think. Found this pretty helpful for finding a bunch of relevant folks to follow relatively quickly. Some I followed for ages at that other place, but some new folks also. blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack...
