Batch cook day for @dbn-mutual-aid.bsky.social! Neighbors helping neighbors

Hello Bluesky!🙂 Some colleagues and I are compiling early-career researcher perspectives on the future of #macrophyte research. So, if you are a student or post-grad interested in #aquaticplants - please take a moment to fill out our survey before July 1st: forms.office.com/r/rVNmmcNFKN

The University of Michigan School of Public Health has an $11m deficit. Staff are getting 0% merit raises, asked to self-furlough, tuition support cancelled, future hiring and job security in limbo. All of this will also impact research and learning outcomes. But there's always money for cops.

Saving the best for last at #IAGLR25 😉 Come see all these talks, and my talk is at 10:40am!

Yes, I am a professional scientist, but I am also too immature to ever refer to posts on here as "skeets". Thanks, Lil Jon

There was a deer in my suburban/urban yard this morning! In Dearborn! Deerborn.

I’ll be presenting virtually at noon in this session to talk about quagga mussel selective feeding on Lake Erie Microcystis strains

The zebra mussel invaded the Richelieu River in the mid-1990s, despite a suboptimal calcium concentration (18 mg/L). After 25 yrs of exposure to fouling, unionid diversity & abundance have eroded to the same extent as in invaded calcium-rich habitats. See our paper: cdnsciencepub.com/doi/10.1139/...

That secret wasn’t a secret, and there will be no consequences still.

More exciting lab news from the @iaglr.bsky.social conference. @hjesparra91.bsky.social received the Student Presenter IDEA+ Award for his impactful research on how road salt affects freshwater systems. Critical work for the health of our lakes! 👏 @waynestateresearch.bsky.social

I don’t even know what LLM stands for lol I have no idea how to use AI outside of generating really weird pictures

So much fun watching everyone be willing to be silly. Some good tools were gained to help grow how we can communicate. #IAGLR25

How are my chronically ill and disabled pals doing at #IAGLR25? Holy shit I’m tired - headed back to Detroit but will be virtually presenting on quagga mussel feeding research Friday!

When "experts" in finance, floral arrangements, and hair scrunchies walk into a room, you may be in the sci-comedy workshop at #IAGLR25.

Michigan is using the latest science to update PFAS fish advisories, crucial for Great Lakes communities. @waynestateclas.bsky.social PhD student Brittanie Dabney spoke to @detroitnews.bsky.social on the risks. At @iaglr.bsky.social ? Don’t miss PFAS sessions today to learn the latest on PFAS!

@anna-bagels.bsky.social I noticed a bird foot and looked up to see a larger bird butt and it reminded me of you ❤️

I am really excited to bring improv to #IAGLR25. Scientists need to be empowered to talk about their research, but sometimes it's scary! Improv has helped me feel comfortable talking to anyone about any topic, including science, by learning how to pay attention, listen, and react in the moment.

Join a Summer Discovery Cruise on Lake St. Clair! @uniofaberdeen.bsky.social has the nerve to knowingly let its staff bully, harass, and attack trans people and refuses to abide by its own Transgender Equality Policy, then raises a Pride flag as if that erases the trauma and harm they continue to cause

Ope!

I want to connect with and highlight more trans voices working with plants, wildlife, and the natural environment so I've created a starter pack! If this sounds like you, introduce yourself by quote-posting this skeet and I'll add you to the list 🏳️‍⚧️

I wanna be friends w the person wearing the Man I Love Fish tshirt at #IAGLR25

Trans science communicator + invasion biologist here! 👋

So proud of my student and her poster! She's handling this crowd like a champ! #IAGLR25

All my favorite #SciComm ers in the same room at #IAGLR25 and my phone was dead! Great presentations by @wildlifebiogal.bsky.social @drfishsg.bsky.social and @drkatfish.bsky.social !!

"What's a religion talk doing at a science conference?" poses Katie Grosh of Yale Divinity School - and answers it by saying faith communities are places of trust and deep engagement where conversations about water science can tie into faith traditions #IAGLR25

A man who needs no introduction: @drfishsg.bsky.social of Wisconsin Sea Grant on using humor to do #scicomm. He also says that he has never received fish questions from random people off the street, which is something that obviously needs to change #IAGLR25

Kicking off the #IAGLR25 misinformation/disinformation and #scicomm discussion is session co-chair @wildlifebiogal.bsky.social setting the stage by talking about the challenges science communicators are facing

Who else is having flashbacks to grad school exams during Steve Carpenter’s talk? @hjesparra91.bsky.social #IAGLR25 (But seriously he’s an ecological legend)

Sumeep Bath of IISD Experimental Lakes Area might win Best Title of #IAGLR25: "What Ryanair, Addison Rae and Viral Cat Videos Can Teach Us About Effective Science Communication"

Sarah @dralgaegirl.bsky.social asked “do we have an easy way to get quality analytics off social media, similar to how Tweetdeck used to work?” Any #scicomm folks have any ideas? Any programmers out there?! #IAGLR25 #greatlakessci

Hey #IAGLR25 - @drfishsg.bsky.social wants more followers! also come check out our #SciComm session today until 3pm in room 207!

Brands during Pride month: 🌈 Exxon: no matter who you love, we’ll make sure your children don’t have a livable planet 🌈 Amazon: we treat all of our warehouse workers like dirt, regardless of their sexual orientation 🌈 Raytheon: our tomahawk missiles don’t discriminate

I was recently talking to someone moving back to Europe, he'd been living in the US, and we were talking about the things he LOVED about the US. 1. Zion NP 2. Arches. 3. Yellowstone 4. Bryce Canyon... It was all our national parks. All of it. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/01/o...

Headed to #IAGLR25! I'll be hosting a Science Communication session tomorrow - "Creating Resilience in Science Communication in the Age of Misinformation" - in N207 from 8-3 Come see me blather about using improv & sketch comedy as a tool to be a more confident communicator @ 2:40!

Chronic mental and physical health issues make everything so much harder than it needs to be
