I’ve worked for both the APS and committees. Even the worst Estimates experience pales in comparison to the psychological damage some SES officers inflict on their staff, or inflict on the Australian public via policies like Robodebt. /1 the-riotact.com/senate-estim...

Today in Weird Food Adventures: A deep fried Mars Bar. This is basically the sweet equivalent of a Dagwood dog. An experience, but not something you would want to eat more than once a year.

Conversation I just overheard: Father: I need food, your mum needs food, I need coffee. Mother: I need another child. (I think she meant she needed to locate another of their children in the crowd, but out of context it amused me!)

Dept of Social Services disclosed private legal letters with the Catholic Church which were then leaked to The Australian newspaper and used in concert to try and silence survivors of abuse by a senior Church member. Yeah, it's nuts. But they admitted it. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/law-cri...

Today in Weird Food Adventures: Deep fried Oreos at the Royal Canberra Show. Delicious! Also on offer: Deep fried Mars Bars and deep fried cheesecake, but I was too full to try those!

Well what do you know, turns out there is a corruption issue in the Robodebt referrals worth investigating. NACC independent reviewer says all six people referred should be investigated for possible corrupt conduct. The NACC gets to do the investigation, of course. www.nacc.gov.au/news-and-med...

BREAKING: NACC to (finally) investigate the 6 referrals it received from the Royal Commission into the Robodebt Scheme. #auspol

Trauma is just as much about what didn’t get to happen as what did …

Worth a read for the individual seat analysis. But comparing crossbenchers to the Star Wars cantina scene is silly. Mos Eisley was described as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy". Many independents campaigned on a platform of improving integrity in politics. www.news.com.au/national/pol...

I am often accused of being too emotional when reporting on politics - but I would rather have a human emotional response than pretend this is just 'reshaping US policy in the Middle East'. It's ethnic cleansing and the end of the rule of law. And the Australian government has said nothing

Opinion | The ABC has indicated it will argue Lattouf has not proved there is such a thing as a “Lebanese, Arab or Middle-Eastern race". The optics are devastating, writes @marquelawyers.bsky.social Read it here: www.crikey.com.au/2025/02/0...
