They fucking disappeared Hamdan Ballal. Sheer impunity, knowing the US isn't going to say shit. "As he was being treated in an ambulance, soldiers detained him and a second Palestinian man, the [Center for Jewish Nonviolence] said. It said his whereabouts were now unknown."

Doug Ford ripping out the spine of Toronto’s bike network is an awful story for urbanism in Canada that’s being overshadowed by bizarre and unprecedented attacks on our sovereignty.

This article by Erica Chenoweth @chenoweth.bsky.social on resistance in the US is heartening. No surprise, there is a lot more resistance than mainstream media is reporting. wagingnonviolence.org/2025/03/resi...

Happy World Water Day! Here’s the intervention I was invited to publish by @nature.com for #WorldWaterDay last year and the issues remain dire with millions lacking access to safe clean drinking water globally. Working with local communities is critically important. #Water #WorldWaterDay2025 #Geo

For folks who don’t know, ethnic studies programs like African American/Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies and the like come directly from civil right era campus activism. Attempts to disempower such programs should be framed as attacks on civil rights same as much else rn.

The Charlie Angus resistance tour will be in Toronto for a town hall on Monday night. I will join the protest at the American consulate at 4pm. Hope to see people there.

Universities should be defending students, faculty and academic freedom. Conceding to bullies has *never* been a winning strategy.

From Werner Antweiler, @simondonner.bsky.social and me. US tariffs underscore the need for Canada to diversify its markets, but our short-term response must be viable long term. LNG terminals that come on stream as global gas demand declines are a false solution. vancouversun.com/opinion/op-e...

Trump spoke for 90 minutes—and didn't say one word about the stress the 60% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck are facing right now.

EXCLUSIVE: I recently spoke with Rep. Al Green who was just escorted from Donald Trump’s speech. We’ll have a chance to ask him more questions this evening. Here’s what he told me:

Al Green once told me: "Only God knows what he will do when he believes that he has no one to answer to. Right now, he knows that we are there, but if we don’t do our duty, the president will do unthinkable things.”

Musk is a threat to democracies around the world and wants Canada to become US subsidiary. Add your name to this petition calling for a ban on twitter/X and let's protect our elections.

As more headlines cover the supposed "demise" of Big Oil's "embrace" of the green revolution, I'll repeat what I've said a million times before: they were never invested in the green energy transition in the first place and should never be considered allies in the fight against climate destruction.

2 weeks ago the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) & For Our Kids released a report about fossil fuel influence on Canadian curriculum & schools. Now Beyond Extraction has released an educational colouring book for all ages. ⬇️ www.beyondextraction.ca/what-it-takes

Same thing with nearly all of the U.S. national security intellectual infrastructure— think tanks, academics, “commentators”. How many were on TV after the withdrawal versus now? Leadership in the entire sector has abdicated and is now up for grabs.

Maria Kabas on this moment: "... being a journalist right now is like standing on the edge of a beach and watching a tsunami approaching." You make calls to folks inland, but "it’s no use. They’ll only believe it when it’s crashing on their heads. This week feels like the wave is about to crash."

Good for these federal workers, concerned about the sabotage of a functioning, safe park, for us and for nature. www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

The snap Ontario election issue is now up at thegrindmag.ca and it goes out in print in the TTC this weekend! Read how Premier Doug Ford’s PC government has affected people over the last seven years.

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

A pipeline company’s lawsuit against Greenpeace goes to trial next week, seeking millions of dollars in damages. But the case is about much more than money.

A report I co-wrote on fossil fuel involvement in schools & climate-related education is now out! We wouldn't accept tobacco companies sponsoring health education, we shouldn't accept #fossilfuel involvement in #climate related education. Read more here: www.forourkids.ca/pollutingedu...

Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post would not run this ad. This is the power of oligarchy.

Just wonderful writing on the 60 Minutes piece on President aMusk dismantling of USAID "The world's richest man cut off aid for the world's poorest people." Well done.

Awful: Internal USAID memo instructs employees to refrain from talking to the media about cuts in assistance to the most vulnerable or they may get fired, WaPo reports. Trumpworld knows this is a big political problem for them. Keep the focus on it. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1915...

Tesla's stock is ridiculously overvalued, and even a modest consumer boycott could tank the company, which accounts for the majority of Elon Musk's wealth. The divestment movement weakened apartheid South Africa. Let's do that again. slate.com/business/202...

OK Ontario, this is not about Doug Ford but aside from the "charismatic" part, much of it fits.

I just donated to get this special issue of The Grind out. Let's remind voters of Ford's record: the gutting of *our* public institutions as well as protections for workers, tenants, and the environment, all so that his corporate buddies can profit. He's not protecting our jobs. He's protecting his.

Who is Doug Ford in bed with? You know whose company digs big tunnels? The sanctioned Russian oligarch/Putin's favourite election rigger, Oleg Deripaska. Deripaska, via Strabag, already has a billion in Metrolinx contracts. #cdnpoli #onpoli #peipoli www.corruptario.ca/metrolinx-an...

I especially want to see the climate people who defended Musk doing this. It’s time to atone
