It only took about two hours, but this was in 2013, so I have no doubt that things are worse now. Any individual immigration agent can just decide to ruin your day if they decide that they don't like your face.

And btw, I *have* been held up at the border before while travelling on an ESTA. I was just going to do experiments in a US lab; nothing illegal, nothing paid for by any US institution apart from the lab facilities.

Ik kan me in ieder geval voorstellen dat het zien van het optreden van de ME bijdraagt aan het wantrouwen tegen de overheid. Misschien niet als hoofdoorzaak, maar wel als versterkende factor.

Op zich is het wel waar dat de ME toen op het Malieveld veel te grof heeft ingegrepen. Mensen in naam van de volksgezondheid neerknuppelen blijft vreemd. Er is te weinig accountability voor die lui; @xrnl.bsky.social kan er vast over meepraten.
