Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Senator @chrismurphyct.bsky.social is rising to the moment

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

Trump's purging the military of highly-experienced senior officers. Why? Because he doesn't care about qualifications. He cares about loyalty. Our heroes—and our national security—deserve better. My op-ed for Fox News: www.foxnews.com/opinion/sen-...

When he says “home-growns”, he’s talking about US citizens. He wants Bukeke to build more torture prisons in El Salvador for Americans. Not me saying it, Trump saying it. bsky.app/profile/atru...

160 years ago tonight, just days after the Confederate surrender, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated while attending the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. He died the next morning, April 15, at 7:22 a.m.

"But there would always be a question mark in the client’s head: Is my lawyer saying this because he believes it—or is the lawyer saying this because he’s trying to preserve his law firm’s settlement with the government?" www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

"I think it's only a matter of time before [a state attorney general] figures out how to file state kidnapping charges against those that are abducting people who are in the country legally..." says former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.

So we had an earthquake today, and something amazing happened…

As someone who knows how to read, I can tell you with certainty the Supreme Court did not say that.   The White House admitted it was an "administrative error" to deport Abrego Garcia and the Supreme Court called on the government to facilitate his return.

Although @GovBillLee won’t elaborate on what federal funding Tennessee is losing thanks to Trump & Elon’s doge cuts — Nashville mayor Freddie Oconnell says public health programs are at risk, I kidding for babies. www.tennessean.com/story/news/l...

"The combination of tariffs and the mass cancellation of research funding threatens to lay waste to the tech and biomedical sectors with devastating precision, almost as if an enemy combatant had targeted key plants with a fleet of bombers." www.theatlantic.com/economy/arch...

Today, Mohsen Mahdawi, a legal resident of Vermont, walked into an immigration office to complete a final step for citizenship. Instead, he was arrested by plain-clothed, armed individuals with faces covered. This is immoral, inhumane, and illegal. He must receive due process and be released.

Sanders: He now wants to take away CBS’s license because they did a story that criticized him. Oh my word, CBS criticized him! Oh, let’s drive them out of business, how terrible… If you can’t take criticism, get out of the political process. This is a democracy

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

this is Mohsen Mahdawi, the green card holder who was just arrested by ICE for rendition at his citizenship interview

Utah!! "The arena has a roughly 15,000-seat capacity, according to the university. An estimated 1,000 more packed the arena floor, and about 4,000 crowded outside the arena..." utahnewsdispatch.com/2025/04/13/b...

Breaking News: Trump officials said they would freeze $2.2 billion in grants to Harvard after the university refused the administration’s demands.

On his way to his citizenship appointment...This is so fucking shameful.

5:04 pm ET and it appears that the government has not yet filed its daily status update in the Abrego Garcia case. Deadline was 5 pm.

If you’ve ever wondered if karma exists, here’s your answer

What do these corporations have in common? Netflix Ford Tesla T-Mobile Duke Energy DISH Network Metlife Dominion Energy United States Steel In recent years, they all paid their execs more than they paid in taxes. This is what a corporate-rigged system looks like.

Harvard redid its whole homepage to push back against the administration’s demands. I mean, this is just a website but I think it’s kind of a great PR move: www.harvard.edu

Donald just said Ukraine invaded itself.

(1/2) April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. APF proudly partners with @APADiv56 on the Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Grant, which funds innovative research focused on understanding, preventing, and treating the effects of trauma, including sexual assault and harassment.

Trump on his plan to impose tariffs on pharmaceuticals: "All I have to do is impose a tariff. The more, the faster the move in. It's very simple -- it's inversely proportional, the higher the tariff, the faster they come."

What remains when courts no longer carry weight, when moral appeals drown in the applause of power, when a man vanishes in the name of political expediency? Then the rule of law dies, not with a bang, but with a handshake. Say his name…Kilmar Abrego Garcia

Cody Balmer, like many people who commit acts like this, appears to have confused, contradictory viewpoints and to be driven largely by rage. It's ok to not slot him into political narratives before we know the whole story.

Don't believe for a moment that one day this couldn't be your neighbor, your friend, your family, you. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/04...

Universities need to understand: this is an organized and intentional campaign to undermine them. No amount of appeasement will work. If you meet their demands, that will suddenly not be enough: a new set of even more outrageous demands will surface. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/14/u...

“Britain has watched President Trump’s tariffs with a mix of shock, fascination and queasy recognition. The country, after all, embarked on a similar experiment in economic isolationism when it voted to leave the European Union in 2016…” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/w...
