You know you are a little on edge when news of the death of the man who ran the coffee booth at your law school makes you burst into tears. He was such a kind man and loss of such kindness feel extra-tragic right now.

Happy BPA DAM Draft Decision Day to all who celebrate! (this is my energy nerd post for the week)

My bit of joy today was getting the knitter mystery minifigure on my first try (I already changed the hair)! LEGO YARN BALL!

I did not have “the other citizenships in this household are European and that might become problematic” on my life bingo card. WTAF America.

This is not an original thought, but I can’t stop dwelling on it. Imagine being a person who immigrated to another country, became unfathomably wealthy due to the amazing resources, including scientific research and personnel, in that country, and deciding you’re going to tear it all apart. Sick.

Tomorrow is our TTRPG Drop-In night! Come play some one-shot campaigns and learn the ropes of TTRPGs! This is a great way to get introduced to games like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder! #TTRPG #TabletopGames #RPGCommunity #OneShot

Be neither wowed nor bullied by tech ‘geniuses’ whose innovations are to repackage and then poorly deliver something that already exists, and then name it a commonly used word but with extra consonants or missing vowels.

Today my daughter and I held hands and roller skated to some 90s pop and I didn’t fall once and I forgot the general state of the world for about 90 minutes. 10/10 would recommend

After meeting members of their board last night at Hillsboro’s State of the City event, I set up a monthly donation to @westsideqrc.bsky.social. All politics are local and I would encourage everyone to support the orgs in their area that are working for safety and equality for all.

Current mood

Standing room only for Senator Wyden’s Washington County Town Hall

Absolutely wild to go to law school and study administrative law of all things right before the executive branch decided laws don’t apply to them.

Deeply grateful today for everyone and everything that helped me leave behind the right-wing mentalities and beliefs I was raised in. Still a work in progress, but I’ve come a long way.

Was honored to be able to attend a gathering honoring our outgoing mayor. Celebrating a man who was a devoted public servant, first in education and then in elected local government was a perfect antidote to this week’s trail of federal horror. If you can, get involved locally. It helps.

I have 3 screens on my desk and they all have spreadsheets open on them. Have I hit peak adulthood? Is there a merit badge?

Our favorite pet’s kidneys are failing and we are waiting on news of whether an extremely expensive treatment that is unlikely to work is helping. Not the best timing anytime, but especially on Inauguration Eve.

There are so many things that will be stopped, defunded, and slow-walked very soon, but so much was done and accomplished in the energy and climate field in the last 4 years that cannot be undone. My thanks to every single staffer who worked so hard to get as much done as possible.

What is the name for whenever I get overwhelmed I go and borrow more e-books than I could possibly read in 3 weeks from the library app? Am I trying to barricade myself with possibilities?

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Courage dear hearts, no one lets go of anyone’s hand.

I cannot think of two modern presidents that contrast more sharply than President Carter and President Trump. President Carter spent his life after presidency attempting to make the world a tangibly better place. Rest in peace sir, your memory is an inspiration.

I am very good at administrative tasks and navigating bureaucratic mazes and the mess that is income-driven repayment plans for student loans right now due to lawsuits and injunctions is defeating me. I cannot imagine it’s going to get better any time soon. Sigh.

A very Merry Christmas and a happy first night of Hanukkah to all who celebrate. May hope burn bright.

It’s sinking in that this is my oldest child’s last Christmas as a minor. I am not a nostalgic person but this one is getting me.

‘Tis the season to get mail from relatives addressed to “Anne Nash”, a name I have never had. I use this to remind myself that getting names right matters, because it really does suck to have people that claim to care about you call you by a name you don’t have.

Parenting teen boys has been rough the last 6 months, but this morning one of them woke up, saw the spectacular sunrise and rushed to make sure I knew about it, dragging me with him to see at the window. Maybe it’s going to be ok. 🌄

This afternoon it finally dawned on me that I did it, that this year I finished my master’s degree and found a job in my field doing important work that I enjoy. Finishing out the year with several life goals achieved feels really amazing actually. It’s never too late to go after what you want.
