Earlier, when the yields went up, he backed down but he did not do so this time.
So I too have the impression that what is happening now is all by design and they think they are ready for it.
I really hope the American people will prove him wrong.

I see two possible scenarios:
Either he underestimates the outrage it will cause when he crashes the economy and gets driven out.
Or he is confident he has positioned himself and his inner circle well enough to handle civil unrest and oppress the population (by inserting poverty as a weapon).

I think it is different for the European veterans. They now being oppressed.

Sometimes I am glad the generations that lived through the war, and to whom the US was the big hero, are no longer with us to bear witness to what is happening.
They would not understand.
