The Kinsey report in the big bad woke days of 1947 showed 37% of men had some sort of homosexual experience. It's not that we are more queer now, it's that it's more accepted to be open about it.

BREAKING: After the first round of ballot counts, Seattle voters have shown they want to fund social housing & are on track to levy a new tax on businesses to do so. Voters weighed in on two social housing questions in the special election: whether to fund the new developer and if so, by what means.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

This is Winston Smith’s job in “1984.”

At least we don't have to read about this on a federal government website: At 2°C of warming, the area on Earth that is too hot for humans will triple. This is fine. 🔥🧪

Your diet, social interactions, exposure to pollution, physical activity and education often exceed the influence of #genetics on many of the features that define you. A pharmacologist explains: https://buff.ly/4aIBCMq (Gary W. Miller, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health)

With Amazon dumping $100,000 to defeat Prop 1A, fully 82% of Prop 1B's funding is now from multi-trillion dollar corporations that would rather see you evicted than pay a dime more in taxes. gossipguy.net/who-is-fundi...

Wish I could say this was surprising!

The inherent chaos, inefficiency, and safety risks of school drop-offs mirror the paradox of car dependency more broadly: the more that people who have the privilege of driving are incentivized to drive, the more difficult, less comfortable, and less safe it becomes for people who don’t.

One thing we have learned from the FEMA flood insurance program is that we cannot continue to rebuild in the same places while expecting different results. Regardless of in North Carolina or California. Maladaptation Is The Next Phase Of Climate Change open.substack.com/pub/petesaun...

Home insurance in areas hit by repetitive disasters is going to be the number one housing affordability issue over the next 4 years. And possibly going into the midterms. More so than interest rates. Florida in particular is going to have huge problems.

The next hot summer out west should be interesting. Looking forward to conversations on internet usage and the energy diet.
