This graphic sums up the Brexit tragedy for the UK. Why beg for trade deal with Trump and become the 51st state? Govt looking for economic boost must call a referendum, rejoin the EU. Farage created hatred for foreigners, now ready to accept millions from Musk www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

All the main water pipes in our village were changed to plastic but just coupled to all the old lead feed pipes well after the 1970 law change no one cares.

Severn Trent Water used accounting tricks to boost investment by £1.68bn. OFWAT uses investment to decide customer charges. Such tricks enabled company to pay higher dividends. Financial engineering rife at all water companies. OFWAT does nothing to curb it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A shocking revelation today in the #PhysicianAssociates scandal It turns out the Health Secretary is using tax payers money to pay the GMC’s costs in defending the legal action brought by @anaesunited.bsky.social to protect patient safety - an outrageous use of public money youtu.be/T-BDHQop1zk?...

Thames Water customers risk paying £263 a year extra to rescue firm. Serial offender, dumped sewage for decades, neglected investment, borrowed to pay dividends. Now wants customers to bail it out. They will own nothing. Let it go bust. Nationalise at nominal cost www.mirror.co.uk/money/thames...

Cost of buying average home in England unaffordable. Only richest 10% can afford to buy, average household needs 8.6 times disposable income to meet asking price. Govts cut real wages, don't check profiteering. People priced out of renting/buying. What future? www.theguardian.com/money/2024/d...

The Brexit Curse: UK tap water safety at risk as testing labs shut down, water companies are unable to use products to clean it. EU countries will share laboratories, UK products cannot be tested abroad; must be tested in in certified UK labs, there are none. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Vulture auction of Thames Water. Covalis offers £1bn to buy TW, flog assets to generate £4bn. Buyers counting on mega hike in customer bills, asset-stripping. Sewage dumping, cash extraction will continue. Only nationalisation can safeguard water services. morningstaronline.co.uk/article/tham...

Our old village is fed by plastic to lead then tap, any water tested is said to be fine by Yorkshire Water but no readings given.

All our old village drinking water comes via plastic to lead then tap, Yorkshire water claim the water is fine but don't tell you the readings.

Private equity is a horror story for the NHS – one fifth of budget goes to it. Privatised services treat 10% of patients, 3% in 2011. 59,000 private contracts in the NHS. 30%-40% of money vanishes in profits, longer queues persist. End privatisation. www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

Water companies in England ‘using loopholes’ to avoid paying people left without running water, Only three water companies out of 17 meet Ofwat’s targets for providing a consistent supply of tap water to customers. Anything water companies do well? www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Tory Govt sewage-dumping South West Water £453m subsidy; £40m a yr since 2013. Company paid over £1.5bn dividends. It has 174 criminal convictions, paid fines of £4.54m. People fleeced - high bills, subsidies. Labour opposes public ownership of water democracyforsale.substack.com/p/revealed-g...

It’s all in the telling.

Cycling is 10 times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities and 100 times more fun.

“I think the [winter fuel payment] means testing was too tight..to set it at pensioners who have annual income of less than £11,400 is too tight” Martin Lewis says the winter fuel payment should have been extended to those pensioners with around “£20,000-25,000” annual income

Govt let off accountancy, architects & private equity firms. Partners taxed as self-employed. They pay Class 4 NIC, lower rate than workers. Partners of just 4 law firms gained £4bn. Enough to cancel two-child benefit cap, winter fuel payment cut. Easier to hit the less well-off archive.ph/XgSuK

People are dying in our village with use of outdated lead pipes for drinking water

People are dying from lead poisoning in our village old lead pipelines have not been changed but bonuses paid

Statement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sad passing of John Prescott, a true giant of the Labour movement

Last night only THREE peers in the House of Lords called for public ownership of England's water industry. That was me, Jenny Jones & Natalie Bennett (Green Party) out of a membership of 827. Public ownership officially opposed by Labour, Tories and LibDems. Most people want to end the scandal.

I'm on hold with Yorkshire Water, whose hold music is their "favourite Yorkshire songs", so compressed that they literally sound like a burst water main. I pity the poor pensioner sitting by the phone listening to a melange of brutal static for 15 minutes. "Is this Tim Hecker's Ravedeath (1972)?"

HT @Blondie_lc89 "Imagine if UK media gave as much airtime and outrage to the closures of libraries, youth clubs, community centres, playgrounds, swimming pools, fire stations - you know, society - as they do about the top 5% having to pay some more inheritance tax. #bbclaurak #trevorphillips"

Just once I want someone to say, ‘I’m forced to resign because I screwed up and did a really dumb thing’; instead of, ‘I was planning to resign even before I did the really dumb thing that just happened.’

www.theguardian.com/environment/... Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent, Northumbrian Water and United Utilities, were able to charge customers higher bills than they would have been allowed to if they had provided the regulators with the truth.Take the owners to court !

REVEALED: 47% of the public supports non-payment targeting the privatised water industry, according to recent national polling. 🌊 Millions of us are ready to withhold our cash until every penny we pay goes into investing in and fixing the broken water system.

We're in today's i paper: 💬 Will, a member of Take Back Water from east London, said the planned bill rise was “a prime example of the failure of privatisation." "Thames Water wants us to bail them out after decades of mismanagement and failure. We’re not going to." inews.co.uk/news/thames-...

Private water companies cannot be trusted to provide safe, clean drinking water, wherever they are located globally. www.theguardian.com/us-news/arti...

How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example). 1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company. 2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly. 🧵
