Not a new story…just a worsening one. The algal blooms date back to at least the 1970s…maybe earlier…after the lake was “freed” from mosquitoes and killed the ecosystem. Fondly remember my hirsute grandfather emerging from the water in the late 1970s looking like a swamp creature.

The fact that work avoidance cost only barely has to be less than actual work required cost to make it worthwhile to those who employ it…priceless!

This makes me want a different timeline. Never go full Late Stage Anthropocene.

Even the oil industry relies on their data. The stupidity hurts…but the fact that a year or three from now, they still won’t be able connect the dots between all they intentionally fucked up and how fucked up things became, and how hard it will be to recover…is infuriating.

Not a mathematicker, but I believe that would be 0 for 300.

Wow…our PPE consisted of a dust pan! Glad to see such precautions in place, but also (cough) makes me wonder… At least we had a hood for the heavy mineral separation.

Yeah…ours in the Klamaths (if memory serves) were mostly metasedimentary or metavolcanic and only weakly mylonitic. So no expert here too!

This was one of my first environmental awareness moments…the documentation of the losses that I first heard about in the early 1970s as a kid…the efforts to capture and breed to restore populations. It’s so nice to have some wins along the way.

Mylonite may also [more succinctly, I might add] be described as a microbreccia with flow texture. 2/2 From the 2nd Edition of AGI’s Glossary of Geology

No idea why that URL doesn't have a link card. But you want to go there for the hover text anyway, as usual.
