i know it's cringe to post star wars as ~revolution~ or whatever, & that's not what this is, but I do think about this sequence from Andor a lot bc I know how paralyzing it is to feel overwhelmed. So, I'll continue working in the lanes where I feel the most needed/helpful.

it's eugenics. they sure as shit won't be giving any motherhood medals to nonwhite mothers or to mothers of disabled kids. encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/a...

Been in the States 15 years and still, every year, I am newly surprised that Easter Monday isn't a holiday here.

If you are in a doom spiral, I understand: things suck. AND "it's already too late" = "no point in trying" messaging, repeated often & with conviction will sink in, and sink us. It is NOT too late, you CAN make a difference, and that means we all have a responsibility to act where we are able.

I am sadder than I expected to be about Pope Francis, considering I left the church so long ago. He seemed like a good man. He reminded me of the Franciscan priests I knew in my childhood, who spoke of lifting up neighbors and finding joy and connection in community. Of the deep meaning of service.

Anyway, if you want to spite JD Vance and honor the late pope, who used his last address to remind us of the bottomless suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, consider helping my friend Obada, who is trying to survive the hell we created for them. gofund.me/fa2c63f0

Next on the History Channel: "JD Vance: Fascist, Couchfucker, Pope-killer"

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative. A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

This ⬇️, with the caveat that if what you're doing could get a person arrested, or put a community you're attempting to support under heightened surveillance - that's the kind of thing on which you can neither take searchable, traceable notes, nor can ever brag. Beyond that? Please be visible AF.

Thread on traveling under an authoritarian regime.

fun historical fact: among the core political forces in the development of mass incarceration was the "Victims' Rights Movement". Its first major legislative national legislative victory was under President Reagan. The prison population doubled under his administration.

We do not have to take Trump’s bait on DEI, because they do not care about some policies being “problematic.” They are disengenously using DEI to target civil rights protections, DEI is a prextext, and it is not reasonable to concede they have a point when it only helps their reactionary push.

This week was definitive proof that pushback works, just like it did during the first trump administration. You may think “resistance” is cringe but it WORKED.

And again. They're not merely orders. Most importantly, they're tests.

Ponti-flex

Just sitting here remembering how the standard US response to bad numbers coming out about Police Brutality, or abuse in Prisons, or the racial demographics of who gets stopped by the cops, or anything else the carceral state doesn't want to fix, is just to stop allowing it to be studied.

Imagine basing so much of your public identity on your adult conversion to Catholicism, only to be publicly dismissed by the actual Catholic hierarchy.

patient care includes keeping your patients safe. incarceration inherently cannot contribute to good patient outcomes, and facilitating it is a willful violation of duty of care which serves only to further undermine already-tenuous trust in the healthcare system.

It's a head scratcher for me that no one seems to really be bothering to write about what the shock might look like at a consumer level. Even at the level of "hey here's what Brexit looked like, will we look like that?" hedging.

if you've ever wondered why -the administration keeps passing laws abusive to children -generations of christians have embraced authoritarians so fulsomely -US policy towards Israel is so weird -and more, look no further than MY BOOK bookshop.org/p/books/wild...

Columbia MD Protesting on 4 corners

If the Liberals win and it is indeed largely due to NDP and Green supporters throwing in their support to stop the right, I hope Carney and his Liberal Ministers recognize that left-wing policies to protect Canada are part of the mandate going forward. #cdnpoli #elbowsup

Probably about 200 people at today's #HandsOff rally in Columbia MD. People waving signs on all four corners of the intersection, lots of honking and cheering.

I love this azalea so much. These flowers are so huge and gorgeous.

Hard to shake the feeling that a lot of enablers are finally arriving at the "oh shit what did we do" stage of things

The El Salvador story is less about Abrego Garcia himself than about the right to due process. The assault on Harvard is less about the school itself (there are and will be others) but attempted federal control of private universities. 1/

RFK jr talking about how “autism is only being diagnosed in children, not in older adults, it must be an epidemic” is crazy because have you ever met someone who is 60+ who is clearly autistic and doesn’t realize and suggest they get diagnosed? sometimes they’re offended you even suggest doing that

I'll just make cookies and have a ST:TNG marathon on a giant screen. I feel like nerds would show up.
