Had a wonderful time this evening seeing @robinince.bsky.social talk - occasionally about his new book, mostly a wild ride through his brain. Amazing and surprisingly emotional for me, walked back to my car clinging to the book like a life raft.

It's a beautiful, sunny #SaturdayMorning in #Orkney and our balls are basking in the sunshine.

Good morning and welcome to Fish For Tea Friday Empathy is the quiet art of holding another’s heart without ever touching it. Empathy is one of the greatest attributes to possess Try seeing things from another's perspective today.

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

I know it is early days but seeing Reform up nine and Labour down seven in council elections makes me wonder if labour will think “oh no, we’ve not gone right enough” or may make more of them realise they are driving the wrong way

If you'd like to do something to help fight the horrifying supreme court ruling, I'm auctioning an original, bespoke Loki doodle as part of a genre creators' fundraiser for trans rights. Your wish is my command. I'll even draw loki as a horse. Bid here. www.32auctions.com/organization... #KidLitUK

I’m an introvert. It’s not that I don’t like people — I just value peace. I recharge in quiet, not crowds. I speak when it matters. I’m observant, not distant. I crave real connection, not constant attention. I’m low maintenance, high depth. If I choose your company, it means everything.

❤️❤️❤️❤️

In case anyone needs a little something to read today, this is a timely reminder that Terry Pratchett’s treatment of gender identity in the Discworld novels is graceful, charming, and ahead of his time.

Every night

Sorry but I just don't feel comfortable sharing public toilets with transphobes. At any moment they could just demand to have a look at my gennies. The law should protect women's spaces from these creeps.

A simple poem of solidarity from the seaside

Christ, can’t we stop dehumanising trans lives and using them as clickbait - look to see despicable promotion of misogyny in USA by white supremacist men (and often predators) , see how the incel movement grows in UK schools and bars

A captivating glimpse into the inquisitive nature of this barn owl. Its tilted head, a study in subtle elegance, hints at a world of secrets.🦉 ©️ tanja_brandt #Nature #Bird #Owl

My little princess is 13 years old today! 🎂🎉🥂 How did this happen so fast? I just love her 🩷She did not love the hat 😂😂

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A man (70s?) and a small human (3?) are walking down a hilly street after a windy night, righting all the rubbish bins that have blown over. Small human is sternly supervising. He'll not rest until Grandad has everything back in its right place! (1)

I'm doing this thing every Wednesday, making a video to promote my podcast, because Instagram likes reels and I want everyone who may like the show to know that it exists. Here's the one I made today, which is (I think) the first video I've uploaded to Bluesky. (Achievement unlocked!)

Part two of how to shut up trans allyship (based on my own banal story)

Part 3 and I will leave the rest and put em up another day but you get the gist

There's a lot of talk about Canada Geese and whether they're good and my answer is Yes.

It's never about the science. It's always about having a legal basis for your fear and hatred of other people.

Listen,I get it,I was an HP kid too. That shit was my first hyperfixation,it took over my whole life. But you know what I did when I found out the creator was a TERFy pos?I stopped supporting it! It’s that easy, trust me. The books really aren’t even that good. I promise you’ll find something better.

Lovely to see the poem I wrote for Devon libraries turned into this starting librarians and library users @librariesunlimited.bsky.social @hulllibraries.bsky.social @librariesconnected.bsky.social @thefnl.bsky.social @britishlibrary.bsky.social @librarian.bsky.social @librarianjones.com #libraries

It's Wednesday (it's only Wednesday? It's only Wednesday.) and that means we have a new podcast for you! This week, it's The Hidden Heart of Brass Attending, by Christopher Scott.

I don’t speak much, but I notice everything. Silence is not emptiness, it’s observation

hope Normally Weird finds readers - I know it won’t get the shower of publicity that something like Age of Diagnosis got because the media prefers the story of “over diagnosis” but I will work hard uk.bookshop.org/p/books/norm...

My first butterfly photo of the year

It's Wednesday, which means I get out of my comfort zone and promote the hell out of my podcast! This week's story is The God of Minor Troubles, by Megan Chee, originally published in Strange Horizons.

Oh hey it's me, just reposting myself from earlier, because I'm doing everything I can to help my podcast find its audience.

We've been quiet today just so we can sneak up on you now at 5pm with the PENULTIMATE episode of the 2025 series of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 5pm this week? It's not the nicest afternoon here and it's a bit cold and it's a bit windy but it is still THIS LIGHT! 💡❤️🌞
