in-person events made sense with the non-existent, limited and often janky WiFi of GB through 3Ds systems. But the internet capabilities of the switch kinda made in-person obsolete. I’m actually shocked to learn the last in-person event was as recent as 2016 and was Volcanion.

Which is cool and all, but why in the year 2025 are they bothering doing in-person events? Is it an effort to get people into stores post COVID? Is it so people without home internet can still get the pokémon?

I’m just actually gobsmacked someone would give me a high demand pokemon (usually offered in exchange for legendary or mythical pokemon) for a level 1 Shiny Smeargle one could easily get with 1/512 odds with the Masuda Method.

I mean Smeargle is pretty good in competitive, the signature move Sketch makes its potential move pool vast. And despite the better shiny odds in recent games, shinys are still relatively rare. Even rarer to see them in the GTS.

Now Star Trim, or even Kabuki Trim I expected to find at least 1 match to trade for, but shock of all shocks I got a Pharaoh Trim. That Trim is exclusive to Egypt in Pokémon Go making it super in demand for dex Completionists who want to register all 10 forms.
