There are a few breeds that are "auto sexing" where males/females have gender specific traits when they hatch but otherwise the accuracy is around 85-90% (their claim, not mine) from the hatchery I buy.

I bought them when they were only chicks, only a few days old. They were all supposed to be sexed as pullets (females) but it's never 100%. Of my 20 "pullets" I ended up with 2 roosters.
