Oh what are they complaining about now? I thought we dropped the conversation on how people dislike unsolicited concrit and it shouldn't be required for us to say we don't want it

And I'm an adult. I feel sometimes they're better written than adult books. I don't WANT to suddenly be slapped in the face with random sex scenes. Let me enjoy a goofy, silly lil fantasy without having to be jump scared by spicy scenes!

I say that as someone whose ideas were immediately told WHY they wouldn't work (all opinions) rather than encouraging the ideas I had to flesh them out
They've done it to many other people too besides me.
I really only stay in the server to link my fics since I never get engagement on my ideas

I think it's just the fanfic server I'm in. I'm not the only one who's been disregarded because we aren't "established" or "well known" in the fandom/server.
It's a clique of people who have been there the longest as well.
They also have a habit of shutting down people's fic ideas

I'm in a lot of fanfic servers that I ask beta help from (tho I'm not in the "clique" and rarely get help)
I just feel bad for them if they think that taking some random person's advice from their comment section is going to improve their writing lol
They obviously have low self esteem or something

Also, regardless of whether fanfic is public or not, it's not to be treated as a workshop class.
That's why people use betas/editors! It's to be done privately.
I think I saw something about how you wouldn't concrit an already published book

I honestly don't remember receiving concrit on my fanfics and I started on FFN (which is god awful now) but literally. They need to ask themselves "would I go up to a random stranger in public and criticize their hair/clothes?"
Because that's literally what unsolicited concrit is.

Lmao they complained about it? Of course they did
A shame they didn't want to listen to me and I was trying to be as patient as possible xD
I don't know what they're talking about with the "when did it change" cause it's always been an unspoken rule that unsolicited concrit is rude.

Literally!!

If I don't ask for concrit, don't fricking give it.
I have never said to not give me unsolicited concrit. Guess what's happened. I've never received unsolicited concrit because it's rude to do so. And I've been writing fanfic for ~20 years now.
Some people just wanna have fun with their blorbos ok

This is old but I literally just blocked them lmao
They're trying to say that "I don't want unsolicited concrit" should be the default (as in, you say you don't want it in your fic) and I'm trying to tell them that NO, I shouldn't have to say that. It's FANFIC. I'm doing this for free! For fun!
comment in response to

This is literally a HOBBY. Something someone is doing for fun, in their free time.
It should NOT be the default that I have to state I don't want concrit on my fanfic. Full stop.

Pointing out spelling/grammar is fine, but when you're criticizing writing style, characterization, etc and the author didn't say "concrit is fine!", that's getting into rude territory.
Not every fanfic author is trying to write a novel. Not every fanfic author wants to improve.

Why should we have to opt out on something like fanfiction? Fanfiction is for fun and its free. The majority of people aren't looking to make money off it (those who know the rules at least) and don't need or want concrit. We shouldn't have to state we don't want concrit. It's not a workshop class.

I'm saying that it shouldn't be the default to accept unsolicited concrit.
If you explicitly ask for it, great!
If you read something that doesn't say they accept concrit, don't give it.
comment in response to
post
Well I don't
That's why I'm saying when people talk about concrit and some say they don't like it, I'm sure they're talking about unsolicited concrit. Especially for fanfic writers, the majority of whom are just having fun with their blorbos and aren't looking to improve
comment in response to

There's a difference between pointing out that there are grammar (which I've noticed varies between people) and spelling errors versus unsolicited concrit of style, character, etc
comment in response to
post
Unsolicited concrit, in my honest opinion, is rude. If someone didn't ask for concrit, don't assume they want it.
comment in response to
post
Personally I don't like concrit, though I should clarify: I don't like UNSOLICITED concrit.
If I didn't ask for concrit, do not give it. Of course, not everyone feels the same as I do concerning concrit.
For fanfics, I'm just having fun playing with my blorbos. Let me have that.

I know you'll be watching on the day I finally achieve my dream of becoming an author. You encouraged me to follow my passion. It has waned with your passing, but with the new year, I hope to get back to it.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I know you'd be happy with my current job and I wish they got to meet you so they knew what kind of person you were, even before the eulogy
I hope your brother was the first person you saw, as he came to see me in cardinal form to prepare me for your departure.

It's my first Christmas without you. Winters are always hard for me, but this year even more so.
I wish I had more time to hear your wisdom.
I hope you're glad my sister is closer to home, so me and my aunt can visit her more often
