Celebrate October by posting arachnids and spiders with the tag #Arachtober. I am jciv, a macro photographer living in South Texas, USA, who loves spiders. At the moment, I am posting mainly stereographic 3D macro photos. 🇺🇸📸🕷️ https://arachtober.com

I had the pleasure of painting some insects and arachnids for Dungeons & Dragons recent releases! 2024 Wizards of the Coast AD: Emi Tanji @wotc-news.bsky.social @dndbeyond.com #dungeonsanddragons #dndartist #fantasyart #michelegiorgiart #insects #scorpions #illustration #dnd #arachnids

I was shooting the flowers trying out my new Panasonic 3D LUMIX G 12.5mm lens (modified for macro focus). Got a lucky Crab Spider perfectly focused. Cross-eyed stereo pair image. Cross your eyes to view 3D image. #macro #stereography #stereopair #spider #nature #wildlife #flowers

💗some pink macro scenes for your Friday💘 1 pink (usually green) grasshopper w/ erythrism (2005!, Oklahoma) 2 metallic sparkling rose-gold abdomen of Habronattus decorus (2021, OK) 3 fluffy Sosxetra grata moth (2014, Belize) 4 cute Pelegrina galathea jumper peaking out from my zinnias (2024, OK)

Tropical Orb Weaver (Eriophora ravilla) caught a moth. Not the greatest stereo pair, probably a tiny bit of motion between shots. But I really like the depth and detail. Cross-eyed stereo pair image. Cross your eyes to view 3D image. #macro #stereography #stereopair #spider #nature #wildlife

Insects drive the production of essential seeds, fruits & vegetables via pollination, and are necessary decomposers of organic matter. They are keystone species that provide invaluable ecosystem services. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheWeeOwlArt #bugsky 🐛 🐞 🦗 #OriginalArt #Drawing #bsnm #ArtShop

Some of the individuals used in this research were collected at @kneppwilding.bsky.social during the @opwallscience.bsky.social field course. Another great example of migration research aided by collaboration

We have a new room mate. I saw these on #SciArt and thought one would brighten our house. Our new pal from Jay * FunkiestBug arrived today. Thanks, @erujayy.bsky.social! #spiders

Skipperling Stalkers - Southern Skipperling, Ambush Bug, & Crab Spider. One of my favorite shots, even better in 3D! The 2D scene won 1st place in the 2022 NABA Butterfly Photo Contest @natbutterflycenter.bsky.social. #stereogram #stereopair #3D #spider #macro #wildlife #spider #butterfly #nature

Publishing this week – Richard Lewington's brilliant new guide to British spiders. Pocket-sized, field-friendly and packing a powerful arachnid punch. Perfect for all lovers of Britain's wildlife. Order a copy here: www.bloomsbury.com/uk/pocket-gu...

So happy to have made this commissioned art for @franzanth.bsky.social's critter collection project! It was such a joy to create - sparks of brightness that were much needed this month - and it's lovely seeing everyone's art in the series 💚 #art #artists #SciArt🐡 #illustration #inverts #BugSky

Armadillos and Cactaceae🌿✨

Hogna antelucana. Out walking and couldn't believe the number of wolf spiders I saw in my neighbor's yard. Several big ones, and then this mom with babies. Cross-eyed stereo pair image. Cross your eyes to view 3D image. #macro #stereography #stereopair #spider

The National Butterfly Center just joined Blue Sky. A great place to find #spiders if you visit the #RioGrandeValley in #SouthTexas.

I'm contractually obligated to regularly post this picture of the smallest known jumping spider species in the world (Neonella camillae) on the head of a pin; so, here we are. #EmotionalSupportSpood Goodnight y'all 🖤

My brother-in-law, in awe, watching this video with a few birthday drinks in him: "We haven't changed, have we? Millions of years of evolution and we [humans] are still doing this shit for love" (Habronattus notialis courtship 💚)

Rabid Wolf Spider (Rabidosa rabida). I went out looking for #spiders after our little freeze in South Texas. Still found plenty of wolf spiders. Maybe not so many big ones though. And not much else. Cross-eyed stereo pair image. Cross your eyes to view 3D image. #macro #stereography #stereopair

Wildlife Photographers!🚨 Stop giving photos away for free! If you are lucky enough to be in a situation where money isn't an issue, don't deny others that right! We just lost a decent sum of money off a project we were involved in for months because at the last second the company decided to - (1/2)

Ok 2025, this is a quality start! Was not expecting to see an adult bolas spider this time of year 😍 She's barely alive, might be at the end of her life, or caught by the recent freeze (they're usually deceased by winter). Sleep well, lovely Lump. 🤎 I've only seen 3 bolas spiders ever. Mastophora sp

Exciting #Arachnology news! It's been clear for some time that spiders have 'noses' on their legs but we didn't really understand how they smell airborne sex pheromones. Now we do! Gabriele Uhl & colleagues have identified the sensilla responsible: 🕷️🧪 www.uni-greifswald.de/en/universit...

IT'S SPIDER TIME

Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) Not my usual subject, but I love the depth and lighting. Cross-eyed #stereography. Cross eyes to view 3D image. #macrophotography #macro #nature #wildlife

As BSky get busier, some of those I follow are now ... too noisy - but still worth following, so I've spent the last days building #Lists. Very useful noise filter and something I never really took advantage of on Twatter. #BskyTips

A feast about to happen: the very rare and critically endangered Kangaroo Island Assassin Spider showing off her impressive mouthparts, whilst carrying around her 8-legged prey 🕷️🧪 #invertebrate #conservation #biodiversity #spider #australia

I still laugh every time I think about this painting. It was so much fun to do. The domino cockroach actually mimics the beetle Anthia sexguttata, not a domino.

When did insects first show up in art? The earliest example was carved into a bison bone dated to 15,000 years ago (!) found in the Cave of the Trois-Frères in France. It shows a cave cricket which probably represents Troglophilus, a genus not found in the region in the present day. 🦗🎨 #bugsky

Burrowing Wolf Spider. Popular in my #Arachtober single image post, shortly before I started posting stereo pair images. Looks a lot like Geolycosa riograndae, but species in that area aren't well documented so can't say from my face only photos. #arachnid #macrophotography #stereography #macro

(1/2) Not all little red mites are created equal 🙏 (they're ALL super cute tho) To illustrate some of the diversity of trombidiform mites - here are representatives from four different families: 1 Calyptostomatidae ❤️ 2 Trombiculidae 🧡 3 Trombidiidae 🔴 4 Microtrombidiidae 🍷

Went out this afternoon hoping to see more Brown Creepers, and was successful. Look at her 🥹 (Attidops cinctipes, a tiny jumping spider which seems much more interested in creeping than jumping)

Where my science people at?

Starter pack for #arachnid fans. #spider #arachnology #science #nature

Mexican Two-Tailed Spider (Neotama mexicana) Cross-eyed #stereography. Cross eyes to view 3D image. Showed this #spider to people at National Butterfly Center recently. Nearly invisible in natural light. Even knowing the tree, I have a hard time respotting every time. #macrophotography #wildlife

Meet some of nature’s waste disposal experts. Do you know that an army of insects is busy cleaning and tidying; processing all kinds of waste, composting dead plants & fertilising soil. The world would be in a real mess without them. Please avoid using pesticides which may harm them!

Booty face is sad tonight

The wasp mantisfly, Climaciella brunnea, is not a wasp, a mantis, or a fly. It is instead a type of spider-eating lacewing that keeps itself safe by looking like it has a painful sting, which is does not. Evolution continues to be marvelous. 🧪 #Entomology

Reakirt's Blue #Butterfly (Echinargus isola). I'm still doing #stereograph #macros on flickr. I keep meaning to post some here, but it's weird not posting spiders on this account. I love the depth and texture in this shitty one. Cross-eyed stereo pair image. Cross your eyes to see a 3D image.

Great evidence that posting weird bugs in iNaturalist really does help us do a better job detecting invasive species. entomologytoday.org/2024/11/19/c...

BugEric just started his Bluesky account.

Marius Hairstreak (Rekoa marius) Cross-eyed stereo pair image. If you cross your eyes to view it, you can see a 3D image, like Magic Eye. #butterfly #macro #macrophotography #stereography
