Something I will NOT miss when I left my current job are the paper thin walls. Everytime the people in the office next to me call someone, I can hear the sound of the phone trying to conect. Also the prof three rooms down the hall allways talks so loud during his meetings, I can hear him.

Klassiker: Ich hab einen wichtigen Termin, also nehm ich den früheren Bus, um Verspätungen einzuplanen. Bus ist überpünktlich, weshalb ich schon 30 min vor meinem Termin da bin. 😅

even as social media implodes around us, so much pressure is put on authors to have huge platforms, even for fiction. this is, frankly, insane. 50,000 followers on IG or X can’t make up for a lack of marketing. the only thing that can make up for a lack of marketing is bigolas dickolas.

Short bit of house keeping from my side: Obvious company accounts that randomly follow me get blocked. I don't care if you a small company or a big one, if you obviously just followed me in hope to promote your stuff I'll block you.

Fastenloven is jedes Jahr lustig, vorallem wenn die ausländischen Kollegen die gerade so drei Sätze Deutsch können plötzlich mit Kölsch konfrontiert werden. 😂

with every bite of bánh mì they grow stronger

Got told by my boss last week that I'm a luxury he can't afford anymore and that he can't renew my contract in August. So I wrote two job applications on Sunday, mostly for my peace of mind that I can say I'm taking care of it. Guess who has two job interviews next week? :D

when people try to parse eg a Nazi salute with “he was referring to / ironic reference” nonsense think of sex. let’s say you and I fuck, but my engagement is ironic — I’m doing it because I’m making reference to a previous discussion about fucking. are you less fucked now? me neither

Doing some promo for a game I'm looking forward to coming out next month: The beekeeper's picnic. It's an indie point and click adventure with Sherlock Holmes, set in his retirement. #SherlockHolmes #Indiegames store.steampowered.com/app/2248890/...

Celebrating the snow day

After +10 years of knitting, I finally have figured out how to cast on properly and not to do this weird fucked up own technique I used all the time and would make every fibercrafts teacher cry. 😅

I just finished reading Mary Poppins, a nice palette cleanser between the more heavy books I tend to read. A sweet collection of cute, whimsical short stories, perfect to read to the children as bedtime stories. But I now believe Mary Poppins is some kind of minor eldritch deity... #booksky

I recently finished "We have always lived in the Castle" by Shirley Jacksons. The first few lines made me laugh out loud and at the end I sat there and had to stare at the wall for a bit to just process what I read. (🧵) #booksky

Just learned that one of our PhD studens didn't use one of the centrifuges for the last 2.5 years, because she did not understand that "the technician came and fixed it" meant that it indeed is not broken anymore... some days I'm just tired...

There's a petition to ban conversion practices (targeting LGBTQIA+ people) in the European Union. We need one million signatures, and we currently have 180,000+. If you live in Europe (even if you don't), spread the word ! 🌈🔥✊ eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

Look. I didn’t want to have to do this. But desperate times call for desperate measures. I present to you the glorious posterior of Plethodontohyla cf. alluaudi. May it bring you joy and peace in these trying times. 🐸🧪🕊️🥚🟤

Me: “Eh, this upcoming game is fine. Nothing terrible, but nothing that made me excited for it either. It actually just made me want to play another game that I think already did it better.” A small subset of the internet: “I bet she got paid by the publisher for this.”

so the thing is just because someone is not posting about every horror, does not mean they aren't paying attention or being active in opposition, and I do hope people can learn to read for other signs of resistance rather than demand people create a 24/7 feed of screaming it's actually not helpful

Just finished reading Maurice by E.M.Forster and now will curl up in a ball and cry a bit. This book destroyed me a bit but in a kind of good way and I was so so so suprised how it ended.

For all of those who have posted my cartoon with my signature cut off, here is the original.

The vibe in science rn 🧪

I'm writing up a SOP for work about our procedure regarding vacations and staying home sick & I just realise I have a love-hate relationship with the word Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung ("doctor's note" in english).

A German citizen on Tiktok warns US users about the similarities between Hitler’s rise to power & Trump’s collision with Tiktok, goes viral, then when her prophecy comes true, the video is removed for community guidelines violation. Draw your own conclusions. I grabbed a screen recording. 👇👇

😌

Me: "Why is everyone talking about David Lynch? Did something happend?" I hoped for a new project. :c

This puts it well & it’s a point I keep making about why using AI to write is so flattening. Writing is the process of working out & refining what you think. If I write an article, I’m not just generating 1000 plausible words. I’m trying to articulate ideas with precision, & challenging myself.

I'll be streaming Plague M.D. today at 4pm GMT (8am PT, 11am ET) - it's hard to imagine a game that's more up my street, to be quite honest. youtube.com/live/20soSql...

I watched this yesterday evening, highly recommended (as always).

The human body is cacophony of eldritch horrors barely contained by a skinvelope

Happy Friday. Be safe out there.

Welcome to the public domain, THE SKELETON DANCE (1929). 🎞️ 🎶👻 Walt Disney Studios' first Silly Symphony cartoon is a wordless masterpiece of synchronized animation & music featuring dancing skeletons in a graveyard. ➡️ https://blog.archive.org/2025/01/01/welcome-to-the-public-domain-in-2025

Things I will never understand: People shooting fireworks before midnight on new years eve, but especially the person in my street that starts before sunset?! Dude, it's half past 3 in the afternoon and the sun's still up. You don't see shit?!

Yes, the forest is haunted. But that's not a bad thing. The fern ghouls and other moss draped horrors that shamble through the gloom are only trying to make connections. To be seen and heard. Just like all of us.

Hate that this is apparently a thing that people would use Love all the creative people and what they came up with
