I follow the development for quite some time now; the person behind this is very passionate about the books and you really can see this in this project. It's made with a lot of love for the characters and due to the successful kickstarter it's completely voice acted with some wonderfull voices.

comes from how people interact and how they treat each other according to whatever standarts and rules society dictates for them. I personally find this way more chilling and terrifying than any ghost or demon possession could be.

I saw quite some people complain about the book not being horror enough, but I think those people expected some kind of supernatural horror. And that's not what Shirley Jacksons wrote. She wrote domestic horror, or how I recently heard it described as "realistic horror". The horror in her stories ~

and the way she's treated by the town dosen't make it better. Yes, what happend to her family is hard and obviously there would be gossip and people being suspicious interacting with them, but this bullying is just over the top.
Sadly the blurb on the back of the book kinda spoilerd the plot twist.~

on. I felt terrified on behalf of Mericat as soon as the first encounter with a town person was described. She's definitely what nowadays would be called neurodiverse and not in the cutesy uwu small bean way this word is sometimes used (even so there is some whimsy to the way she sees the world) ~

"My name is Mary Katherine Blackwood. I am eighteen years old and live with my sister Constance. I have often thought that with any luck at all I could have been born a werwolf [...]"
This just sounds SO much like this girl should have a tumblr account.
It did NOT prepair me for how the book went~

your mileage may vary as they do staggered rollouts and stuff, but I was able to turn it off (for now).
on a computer (as opposed to mobile), it should be the settings gear->see all settings
then there should be a checkbox next to "Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet" you can uncheck
