I'm ecstatic to see that Scurry 3E has in lrss than a day raised more than Scurry1E did for its original print run across all of ZQ3! Scurry was (pretty much) my debut as an indie games designer, so I'm very proud to see it evolve and refine over the last four years ❤️🐀

Hello Bluesky! The Canadian Archaeological Association / Association canadienne d'archéologie has made the move from the other place! We're looking forward to connecting with the archaeological community over here, so please tag folks we should be following! #canarch #heritage 🏺

As someone who's studied coastal peoples since the beginning of my career, this doesn't surprise me in the slightest, but it is super cool to see it being discussed/argued more! www.ateneo.edu/news/2025/02...

Happy 10th birthday to the Ea-Nasir complaint tablet meme! A glorious decade of memes, mashups, merchandise, erotic fanfic, real-life copper fraud, and pilgrimages to the British Museum. Thread 🧵:

Announcement time: I am co-organising an archaeogaming session at this year's World Archaeology Congress in Darwin, Australia! We're looking for papers that explore how archaeogames are used for storytelling and interpretation of archaeological data: worldarchaeologicalcongress.com/wac10/theme-...

My GOODNESS I have been laid low by whatever flu situation is going around Glasgow this month, but I promise I am finally starting to be a functional human again! Chronic illness on top of normal illness is NOT FUN 🙃

Proud to be part of this fantastic special issue of Visual Studies: Colourised Histories, edited by @liziwat.bsky.social and Dominic Williams, bridging film and still photography to address questions of historical method, racialization, ethics, AI, and more. Thread 🧵 to introduce each article 🗃️📜📷📸🎥

Delighted to share my latest article in this fab special issue, ‘Colour Troubles’, that investigates how photojournalism of The Troubles in NI intersects with colourisation and colour - with a special focus on Japanese photog Akihiko Okamura & recent exhib at Photo Museum Ireland #photography

After 6 hours and lots of caffeine, we have solved the Picts! Probably. We must have... Right? We've had a lot of marathon meetings for Carved in Stone, but this one takes the cake!

Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate. (They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase). 1) Go to your account page 2) Hit cancel 3) Change sub back.

Here. Have a baby flamingo.

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

Oh my goodness, the HOURS my family and I spent on this website...

I'm live, building some Scottish Neolithic Rock Art on the Archaeo SMP server! Check it out on my channels over on Twitch and YouTube: www.twitch.tv/archaeoplays How am I going to do that in Minecraft, since Minecraft's scale for rock art isn't great? You'll have to come find out! I have plans...

Premiering now! I'll be hanging out in the live chat, or you can catch it as a regular video afterwards 😁https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YViGVcYaxKE

Don’t assume the far right are only using pseudo-archaeological ideas, when they have been able to select & appropriate academic archaeological discourse for decades, as if its designed to fit their exact needs (Richardson 2025, forthcoming) www.independent.co.uk/news/science...

Premiering tomorrow at noon UK-time - come hang out in the live chat or catch it after the premiere like a typical video! youtu.be/YViGVcYaxKE

Come north with me this evening for another wonderful episode of Digging for Britain - where we’ll dig into a civil war story at Bishop Auckland, delve into clues to a Roman crime and find out how ancient DNA is transforming our understanding of disease in the Middle Ages.

I'm writing subtitles for my next video, and there's a point where I say 'if X happens, blame the chronic illnesses' And YouTube autocaptions wrote it as 'blame The Chronic Illnesses' and my brain can only interpret the capitalisation as a boy band OR some kind of secret government operation. 😂

I'm live playing some Sky Factory 4 over on Twitch! It might be a short(ish) stream, my hip is currently stabbing me, but here's hoping we can at least get a little ways into the game! www.twitch.tv/archaeoplays

'Curators should closely study animal remains for any links with Indigenous nations or communities, and researchers should involve those groups when remains are culturally significant' 🧪🏺🦴

I need Art Portfolios for Carved in Stone! I've been working on a Pictish history book for the last 5 years & I'll be looking to brief artists for print-ready work in March 2025, for delivery in June 2025. Details in this thread 🧵

Sadly, I did not get my requested functional digestive system for Christmas. But I DID get some lovely hoodies from @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social which I think we can all agree is a major win! I may not be able to eat mushrooms, but that doesn't mean I can't support their conservation! 🍄

The Archaeological Institute of #Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) found a 7000 year-old settlement ahead of construction of Prague road near Nupaky in Central Bohemia. They uncovered 8 columnar structures, storage pits, polished stone artefacts. The site includes a village from the Halstatt period. 🏺

What I would REALLY like for Christmas is for even just one of my seven chronic illnesses to go away forever. That or a functional digestive system. That can't be too much to ask, right? 😂🙃

Looking very much the image of a bloodied, fallen god - a glass head of the doubly syncretic deity Zeus-Serapis. It was originally a cast and carved chunk of opaque red glass which acquired a green patina over the centuries. 🏺 #AncientBluesky Roman, 1st-2nd c. CE. #MetMuseum 📸 me

Tracking ancient millet's 🌾 journey through prehistoric cooking! Analysis of Bronze/Iron Age pottery from Poland shows broomcorn millet went from zero to hero - absent in Early Bronze Age but became a kitchen staple. #Archaeological 🏺chemistry reveals ancient food choices! #archaeology

🦠 Evidence of tropical parasite (*Schistosoma mansoni*) in a 15th-16th century Spanish merchant's latrine in Belgium! 💩 🏺 tells amazing stories about trade & travel! Once thought we detected S. mansoni using #palaeoproteomics, but instead discovered same lab was earlier used for schistosomiasis 🤣

Handaxes on the move! We’ve been busy making lots of replica prehistoric goodies for Christmas presents. But a couple found themselves on a plane with @profaliceroberts.bsky.social heading to Australia for her Cells to Civilisation tour! Here’s one of Palaeolithic handaxes being made: 🏺 🦣 🧪
